Where can I buy the Leap motion module and should I order 8K X instead of 8K?
I’ve currently backed the 8k X myself. But I think it might actually be wiser to back the 8k. Thing is that you need high resolution content to really enjoy the benefits of the 8k X. I don’t see such content coming anytime soon, not in 2018 at least. And who knows which HMD options we’ll have in 2019 …
Some benefits I can think of:
- Virtual desktop will be better readable in the 8k X
- Playing regular 4k movies will have higher resolution
Other than that I think we really need to wait for games to support it and SBS 180 movies. Both I don’t see happening in 2018.

I read that if you want to purchase the Leap Motion module with your 8K pledge, you need to add $100 to your existing pledge to receive it. Pimax also said they would send a survey after Kickstater ends so that you can inform them (in the survey) you want that $100 to go to the Leap Motion module.

I use riftcat + wearality + axon 7 (2k).
And when I use virtual desktop, text can read easily.
So I think 8k is enough.

But that’s not how pimax explained it, through openVR the games will be Rendered At the resolution the HMD asks for just like a Monitor, 8KX is rendering 4K per eye with Brain warp enabled.

I would say if you have cash get the 8KX they are going to send you an 8K first any way! As more info on the 8KX is sure to come out before it’s launch , you can Decide whether to keep the 8k and get your money back .

The problem is not the money but I don’t want to wait until may / june, are you sure they will send an 8k if I order an 8K X?

That is what they said in my confirmation email. I bought the [Early bird] 8k x bundle. None are left.

Yes that’s what they said but even if we’re to back the 8K now you may not get it soon as others they are going by Backing order.

If you order the 8K X now, Pimax will send you first the 8K and when the 8K X is ready, Pimax will pay for you to ship the 8K back. That’s what Pimax has been saying all along. What I don’t know, do you have to send your Pimax 8K back first before you receive the 8K X.

Now if you’d render that at 4k would it look all of a sudden fantastic ? No it wouldnt because the game lacks high resolution texture data in the first place.
It’s the same here, to truely benefit such a high resolution game developers will need to develop textures of such high quality for it in the first place.
Don’t get me wrong, there will be improvements of course rendering the same data at higher resolution. That will always be better than just an external hardware scaler. But to really see much difference you’ll need game developers to support it first.

It’s all speculations at this point. Pimax hasn’t even created the X model yet.
They will send you an 8k first yes ! I was just saying they are shipping on a who order first basis.

Hehe it was just an example to clearly demonstrate that without higher resolution textures you won’t gain much by just rendering the same data in higher resolution.
Pimax themselves also confirmed that they didn’t see much difference. At first I thought they just said it to get people to buy the 8k instead of the 8k X. But now I think they were right about it for the reason I just mentioned.

I still believe that’s exactly why they said it There’s already a plan for the 8k Chipsets all that etc . Mark my words a few months after 8k ships you’ll start hearing about all the upgrades the 8KX is going to get as it is going to be their flagship
Ok but games like ED are written with those high textures/resolutions arn’t they? ED looks stunning on my 4K monitor. Wouldnt they just need to add a custom resolution for the 8KX or is that down to how steam vr handles it?
Even if just 5 big games could support that resolution it would be worth getting
The rest can hopefully be upscaled

Hmm some games indeed might be written ‘future proof’ already. In most cases it’s just a lot of extra work for game developers that nobody (except pimax 8k X users) can see anyway.
