Trackpad vs thumbstick

Old ipod track pads are a very different implementation than steam controller style trackpads, which often do want some kind of click or press for various functions. Similarly, sliding on the pad is likely to hit the stick, which for lack of a better term could also be called a misclick.

The simple truth without trying it; your only assuming mis clicks. With the right design it can work fine.

As for trackpad yes the old ipod would be a bit different save both were designed to use the thumb. There not as different as you might think.

Like i said you could accidently activate a cap sense where you wouldn’t a regular button

This is the company cirque who provides Valve with the trackpads if you guys are interested in a bit more details. They are also offering a DevKit in the future, i am already thinking about to order one of these if they are not to expensive and available for normal guys like us.

adding to this discussion a recent situation that occurred with the payday vr beta. The game would not work with oculus controllers because the beta was intended for vive, and they had not placed the ability to read a stick input into the game initially. Using a stick on a knuckles may make it a kind of franken controller stuck between two different hardware standards that is read incorrectly by both oculus and vive games.

The Payday issue like any other game with this issue can be fixed with OpenVR-InputEmulator.

Yeah no surprise with it being beta. Maybe they can expand openxr to include controllers.

But that could just fall into where one is better than the other. Games like Descent/Sublevel Zero i’d rather have twin sticks (since i don’t have hotas yet)

That is awesome! I think the steamcontroller might be opened up as well. Would be neat to play with both concepts

For a Company like Alps (Cirque) it makes sense to offer these DevKits not everyone working on a new Design or implementation wants to spend days with soldering… before he can begin to test the possibilities of this Controllers.

So it’s a win for Alps because they can reach more people and it’s a win for us gamer because more people tinkering around with new ideas and concepts.

Awesome find I was unaware Valve had licensed this design. Pimax needs to know about this if they don’t already.

Agreed as per @Evol have added pokes to your post for the PiMax team.

Definitely good to see more things like this evolve.

“At the end of the day it all comes down to the game developers. If they develop for the knuckle controllers the trackpad will be king. The stick is great for the oculus touch but that’s where it ends, sad truth.”

And if the Pimax controllers have BOTH, it does not matter.
Very big advantage!

MUST a Backer NOW complete the survey?

Important question:
If a backer does not pay attention to the “LAST REMINDER”, and fill out NOW the survey, does he lose his money?
It would be good if a backer could wait with the really hard decision (trackpad or thumpstick).

If a backer decides to ship separately (if Vive exists, there a three months difference…), can he decide otherwise before shipping the controllers?

There are still five months until the controllers are sent!
Enough time to design a double design (similar to the controllers from Microsoft).

A double design would also be interesting for non-Pimax users.
Pimax could increase its circle of buyers to all systems that uses lighthouse bases.
And, more difference to the Vive knuckles design (licence…).

Look this image (graphic and text) with two Windows Mixed Reality Controllers.

Trackpad AND Thumpstick.

PLEASE say yes to a dual design.
Now, also Microsoft VR with a dual design is part of SteamVR.
Take the best of all designs. “Knuckles” from Vive, Trackpad/Thumpstick from Microsoft… And perhaps…

Who agrees with me, please click “Like”.

.

If not, I hope another company will offer Trackpad/Thumpstick controller for lighthouse…:frowning:

I accept everything except the same controls as the windows mixed reality. They suck. I really hope that the controls to be delivered by Pimax have a higher quality and if it was for that reason the decision of separate trackpad or thumbstick, keep it that way.

I only meant that the Microsoft controller have both.
Not this simple and “cheap” design of the Microsoft controllers!
And these are not “knuckles” controllers…
Just the one detail, trackpad and thumpstick.
High quality “Knuckles” controller with trackpad and thumpstick.

Only a example for both beside.

“The requested topic does not exist.”

If you mean the above thats weird. Just tried it & works

No, it doesn’t work, I got “The requested topic does not exist.” too.

Strange it works & displays correct on my end. Lets try again
