I will talk to @Alex.liu as he has been working on getting this fixed up. Without having a larger sample base it is difficult to ascertain how many out there have this defect. We do have a larger number of folks here as those whom search the issue will gather where others are reporting.
Either way this needs to be fixed between pimax and valve. The sampling does show it hasn’t been consistent to narrow down to a particular batch bom.
Using a headset port limits the use of modular ports.
@PimaxVR@PimaxQuorra can you help ensure this issue with controller connection get’s some priority in being fixed?
Yes @Heliosurge basically they told me the same but gave me no way to fix it. No info no pictures no nothing. I also lost control of my right index controller but I found out that was caused by steam VR beta after I turned it off and went back to regular steamvr the right one started working again but still the left index controller would not work without plugging it into the Hmd
The only fix in the mean while is either plugging the controller or a dongle into a usb (headset works best due to range). Until they can get this resolved unfortunately.
can anyone recommend an adapter to use on the headset? I have a usb 3 to usb c adapter from amazon that came 2 in a pack but it does not seem to work. i know the cable is good because I use it for another device to phone and to tablet. unless im doing something wrong. I connect the dongle to the pc to pair it then after it is paired I connect the dongle to the headset top port via the adapter about 3 inches long and I get nothing.
I have used this cable with succes for the last months.
Edit: sorry I didn’t read your post well enough, i see you are using a dongle. I never used a dongle, my solution is connecting the left controller to the 5k+.
Can you link the adapter you tried? I used the recommended one way above, p sure it’s just amazon basics. Similarly to that guy I use the bottom usb-c (which I’m def gonna change, thing sucks to be placed there) and just secured it down.
Your method is solid, pair on the desktop in a usb 3.0 port, then just plug it into the hmd.
that link is to the adapter I have. it was a 2 pack maybe I should try the one from the paqck that I know works. when I connect the cable to the pc I hear it connect one one port and the othe pops up saying it is a regular usb c port and not a thunderbolt port (just letting me know it sees the cable) but when I put the dongle in I get nothing the controller never connects only if I use the dongle without the adapter it works.
I’m pretty shocked those don’t work I don’t think we are anywhere near the need for 3.1 data rates, but that at least is a difference between the adapters. For me if I leave the index controllers on, when i unplugged the dongle from my desktop the light on the one controller paired goes blue, but it instantly re-pairs when i connect to the HMD (light back to green, pitool recognizes it).
If all else fails I’d go for the anker, you can always return it if it makes no difference luckily.
yea I dont think it has anything to do with speed as it wont even connect to it light stays blue unless I take it out of the adapter and plug it directly into the pc. I checked with the other one from the 2 pack and it is a no go. This is why I wanted to ask for a know working adapter so I dont have to play the guessing game lol specially since I dont know what makes them different. So the link you gave me? is it a known working adapter? with the pimax headset? also did you try connecting the adapter to the top port? I believe my issue is 100% the adapter due to it not even working on my pc with the adapter.
I will test the top port tonight as I plan to permanently move it there. I just double checked my old amazon orders and yes that is for sure the exact adapter I am using. I use a 5k+ fyi.
ok cool i am going to order the one you sent the link to since we know it works im on the 5k xr same headset just different screen I like it and think it looks really good once you dial in the correct settings the distortion was so noticeable when I first put it on but after a min or two you dont notice it even in large. I wanted the 8k x but I need to do more research due to me just spending 1k on this headset and the 8kx is another 1.4k also the eye tracking is 200 and i might want that as well but this company needs to up the reviews before I spend any more money with them. lol

Date: 26-08-2020 Issue Title: Steam vr BETA, headset in standby mode wont wake and be seen by steam vr BETA Description:SteamVR beta, Container Permition problem
Hello
I own the pimax +5k and it have previous worked without any issues until i got the windows 2004 update then i had all kind of problems on my computer.
Pimaxtool ( software v1.0.1.261, headset firmware v2.1.255.264 )
ANyway i am using pimax +5k with steamVR beta and after i reset my computer i am installing everything again.
But i have a problem now.
When i run steamVR for the first time it ask me to give permition since steam need a “container permission”.
After i press YES and restart steam vr or my computer, and i start steamVR beta again then i all the time get an error saying
steam vr have had an unexpected error restart steamvr ( 476 )
When i mouse over the Vr hedaset it say its in standby mode, and the base stations is not tracking since there is not visible vr headset…
Well i cant get it out of standby mode.
IF i install the ordinary steamVR then steamvr instant detect it and start searching for signal from the base station and find it within 10 seconds and then steamvr is working as it should.
ps… I was able to make it work a few days ago but i dont know how, but i also at that time had the exacact same problem, maybe it have something to do with “permitions” that is blocked by something or the standby function for some reason.
I remember that i just kept trying to restart steam vr beta and reboot pimax and so on and then all of a sudden it worked. But this time i havent been that lucky
TIP.
Solution to making the pimax +5k working… Change the SteamVR beta to the ordinary steamVr software then it work instant and turn on and track the headset.
Just right click steamvr beta and go into beta tab and select another version…
Dont worry it wont effect installed games ect and you dont have to reinstall them ect.
However steamVR and steamVR beta might run better/worse in some games such as DCS world.
