Tracking Issues April 2020

Date: April 1st, 2020
Issue Title: Tracking Issue with Index Controllers and Pimax headset
Description: When playing any game, but most specifically Beat Saber, both my controllers will lose tracking for split seconds then come back. Sometimes it will go out of the map for as long as 5 seconds and come back. It’s easier to reproduce this bug with fast-playing games like Beat Saber and Creed: Rise of glory.

Issue Title: Tracking Issue with Index Controllers and Pimax headset
Description: When playing any game my left index controller will lose tracking for about a half second then come back. This happens approximately once per minute or two minutes. I have no issues with the vive controllers, or with index controllers with my vive.

Pimax 5k+ 203 series
LH 1.0 (x2)
Valve Index Controllers purchased this month from Valve (march 2020)
SteamVR: 1.10.32
Pimax FW: .255
PiTool: .258

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: RTX 2070 super, MSI Ventus
Ram: 16 GB 3200Mhz DDR4
Motherboard: MSI B350 Gaming plus, have used external USB for the HMD as well
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64Bit
Sound Card: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, though normally off during VR use

Obviously I haven’t had the controllers long, since I’ve just recently received them before the release of Alyx. I first noticed this issue in skyrim, have adjusted my BS physically, blocked all reflective surfaces, played with USB etc. Confident that this is an issue with pimax software/hardware

Have covered surfaces, removed/re-paired controllers, removed other wireless devices. Controllers track fine when connected to headset via USB-C.

Finally found a way to record… Ignore nvidia stuff. See the controller flicking back and forth. My hand is not moving by my side

Issue Title: Tracking Issue with Index Controllers and Pimax headset
Description: Same issues with tracking…no matter what i do.
seems only fixed when plugging my controller to my PC…
went through 3 left index controllers and 4 right ones.

Def the headset, been happening to me since i got them.

Tried to capture the issues i been having, some of it does not appear and got tired of trying to capture it.
Main issues, if the controllers are under the headset, my hands will open and close(lose signal)
It is not stable when NOT looking at the controller, If the controllers are at my waist or near my chest.
it will also lose tracking or just straight up freeze and not move(making a fist on me)

And Add in Alyx when move with joy Im have random stops and random haptic feedback pulses. When connect one controller via USB-C in headset works perfect, Beat Saber same.

Same here “Have covered surfaces, removed/re-paired controllers, removed other wireless devices. Controllers track fine when connected to headset via USB-C.”

  • Index Controllers FW uptaded.

INFO: Apparently a single controller works perfectly, but when there are 2, the tracking errors start. the only temporary solution is to connect one via usb-c. This issue need absolute priority to fix.

Covered any reflective surface. With and without bright light in the house. Tried using one controller which seems to work good but using both makes the tracking issues appear. Works good with both controllers connected to the computer with USB C.

Issue Title: Tracking issues with index controllers
Description: Every once in a while, my controllers will lose tracking and fly about a foot away before coming back (over about half a second), this occurs intermittently and i can’t replicate it though it does seem to occur more often when i have sensors pressed down eg: gripping something. I’ve eliminated all possible sources of interference as per Valve’s suggestion.

Hi , everyone
I used the index contorlls on my PC for one afternoon, except for the occasional tracking loss (possibly the positioning is blocked), it did not appear the issue.Do you use other bluetooth devices in your computer?

Issue Title: Tracking of controller issue
Description: Playing HL Alyx the controller will sometimes disappear and then re-appear. Sometimes it will drop to the floor in-game. I play seated, and don’t wave the controllers around a lot, but with only one lighthouse I suppose it could be losing line of sight somehow?

No bluetooth either.

Were you using a 5k+ 203 model like most of us?

Is there a usb bandwith monitoring tool that we could use to see if the problem really is bandwith related?

If everything is fine with both controllers wired to the headset it can’t be USB cause its going over the same wire to the PC. Its possible we might need a new firmware with better diagnostics for the steamVR dongles inside the headset

The tracking loss we mention is occasional - please check out vrmonitor.txt located in your steam folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Logs\vrmonitor.txt. For me it is periodic, every 2 or 3 minutes the left controller disconnects for .5 seconds to 2 seconds, for me the controller is labelled (1). Occasionally the second controller loses tracking, but for me it’s rare. As others have mentioned, plugging in one controller with USB-C prevents the issue entirely.

Nope, No bluetooth at all is used.
I even tried getting a vive linkbox when this was going on 2 weeks ago, and i thought it might have interference still, So i disabled the built in one, So i don’t have anything else.
Tried everything i could think of, I don’t even have my Wifi on either for my router(don’t use it).

https://community.openmr.ai/t/why-pimax-has-some-controller-compatibility-issues-with-index-controller-some-info/24313/99” tried this and only this solved the issue for now, but that just further proves our problems about bandwidth issues.

No bluetooth, no overclock, no wifi.

Thought you might want to know. This bug report is about Valve Index controller tracking issues with the Pimax.

Issue Title: Tracking Issues with Index Controllers and Pimax 8K+
Description: Index Controllers will drop out for 0.5 seconds for no reason, even more when moving the controllers. This happens even without playing any games, and happens in Pimax VR Home too. This issue ruins playing games like Beat Saber, Pavlov, Half Life Alyx, and using software like OVR Toolkit. I have tried switching USB ports on the Pimax, even to a dedicated USB PCIE expansion, and the issue is still there. I have even tried restarting my computer and headset, and the problem still happens even after a restart. I would NEVER have this problem on my HTC Vive and Valve Index, plugged into the same ports and everything.

I strongly believe this is a problem with the receivers in the Pimax headset, or the software.

HMD Model: Pimax 8K+
First 3 Numbers Serial: 206
Pitool Version: V2020.3.24
HMD Firmware: V2.1.255.260
Tracking: 4 Lighthouse 2.0’s. I am using the same non-reflective room, with no WiFi or bluetooth, that I used with my HTC Vive and Valve Index. Tracking was never an issue with them.
