I think it is notable that MSFS 2020, Elite Dangerous, DCS World, and PavlovVR achieved relatively high rankings in the poll. Even I was actually not entirely expecting that.
It’s also worth noting that there already was a campaign for Elite Dangerous to support headsets like Pimax, at one point it became one of the top three Frontier Issue Tracker requests.
And Frontier finally responded, by saying ‘No’.
So while I welcome any future attempt by Pimax to persuade them otherwise, I’ll be extremely surprised if anything happens now, given that they rejected it despite it being a top issue raised by their own community.
At the current time, there are no plans to provide support for new HMDs outside the officially supported systems and platforms. The officially supported platforms are Valve Index, HTC Vive and Oculus.
Well the poll is to Pimax users, who have a significant proportion of sim users among them. You would get a very different balance if you polled Oculus users.
Sadly even that would not be enough from what I can tell. They don’t appear to be interested in expanding VR support for the game.
As mentioned previously, I had the opportunity to meet a lot of Frontier again, long before the pandemic. I mentioned VR and Pimax. I got into VR purely for ED, and a 5k+ pretty much just for the game.
They were intrigued, but the reality is that most of them had not tried VR in any capacity, let alone in their own game. It’s just not on the radar for most of them, so there is little drive within the company to push on this front, and what Braben says goes, no questions asked. It doesn’t seem that much has changed since then.
A shame, but VR has slipped from their priority list. The responses I have seen from them in recent times, especially with Odyssey, have not been encouraging.
Not sure what you are asking here. For one thing though, it is a bit surprising car racing games like Assetto Corsa or especially Project Cars 2 were not ranked higher. I would also not have been surprised if flight sim ranked below, rather than above, roomscale apps like PavlovVR.
@hammerhead_gal, if you get to the number 16 on the list, IL-2, please invest some time with developer to find out why the game freezes with fixed foveated rendering? thanks
