How’s the distortions with the second-highest settings? FOV around 150 in that? Is it larger than in Valve Index? If I get great clarity with a slightly bigger FOV than with Index, I would be happy already.
Even the small FOV of Pimax is bigger than the FOV of the Index. Different people are affected in different degree by distortions. The headsets now ship with a rigid strap that makes it possible to position it better on the head. They also come with 2 cushions with different size, so you can try and see which one works better with your head an face shape. Those two things should help eliminate distortions for most people. Until now the headsets were shipped with a cloth strap and only one cushion so many people had problems achieving a good setup.
Tweaking the IPD should remove the top and bottom distortions (the Pimax headsets have wider vertical FOV on top of the wider horizontal).
For me even the largest goes distortion free when playing, I really need to go searching for it. But physiognomy and position seem to make a large variation in seeing distortion or not.
So it’s hard to tell you how it would be, testing is the only thing to go save, and then you still need a bit of time to adjust it to your face.
Its a bit silly, but maybe we would need a 3D Face library and the perception of the image… So one could at least take a more educated guess if it will fit to one self or is prone to have distortions.
As @prinyo said above. Small FOV is bigger than valve index and you will have great clarity with Small and Normal fov. I have no distortion in Normal mode and I don’t see any in Large mode. (iRacing)
FOV: When measured in the ROV Test app, the smallest FOV setting of the Pimax is about 120 degrees horizontal. While the Valve Index is 106 degrees horizontal. The largest FOV of the Pimax is much larger, about 160 degrees horizontal and 120 degrees vertical.
