The Spanish Inquisition Team - The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth (by Neoskynet)

Neo, it was eminently clear that Pimax was not going to go for my initial exchangeable lens idea back with the M2 prototype. I spoke to Mathew.XU back when, and it seemed clear they were only going for a software based implemenation.

In truth, we scored a win!

we were lucky to get variable FOV in software for the performance gains.

New lenses would cost $50,000 in tooling for each, not to mention require testing. I do wish they would do lenses optimized for their different FOV options , but given that 8K-X is already $1300, whatever the cost of new lenses they could develop, it would transfer right to the consumer at which point it would be out of reach of most consumers.

Pimax as a company has also moved beyond the startup stage. They likely have parteners now with contracts and commitments will tie them down. (As has happened with the controllers.)

What I would recommend is that a brave and ambitious 8K-X owner should remove the optics, find out their properties, and then buy lower magnification lenses from a company like optolife (they are cheap) so that we have a proof of concept to show Pimax.

I doubt @SweViver will do this now, since he is an employee, not that it would be impossible for him to try. He is a bold one after all!

They are not going to retool for multiple new lenses, unless it could be decisively proven beforehand that the idea would improve the device in a big way, increasing its marketability to a larger base.

Unfortunately, industry doesn’t move because guys have awesome ideas. Just ask John Carmack about dealing with Samsung, and trying to convince them that his ideas are good.

I think there’s too much misinformation and misunderstanding with virtual reality lenses.

Here you have a video of a Spanish company specialized in lenses for virtual reality. It’s the best I’ve ever seen. You will learn a lot.

Lens molds cost much less than $50,000 and each lens costs between $0.50 and $3 at most. The difference between good lenses and bad lenses in virtual reality is the knowledge of the company that creates them. And it is clear that the company that is creating Pimax lenses is very bad.

The person at the center is Oscar (Knob), the creator of the realovirtual.com test tool.

It’s in Spanish, but the subtitles work well.

Cheers,
Neo

There has been a link on the forum (originally posted by @Sjef) about the Limbak’s new lens designs from SPIE conference (SPIE AR | VR | MR).

I was just trying to check it out, and found out that the link no longer works (it was a recorded presentation from the conference). I cannot even find it in the SPIE database (https://www.spiedigitallibrary.org/), so it may have been pulled completely.

What the hell, how did sjef manage a 1000 year ban?

“This user is suspended. Reason: Doxxing very ugly stuff”

I have no idea what doxxing means. Must be something terrible indeed.

One could argue that if the stuff is really ugly, and true (EDIT: …and importantly: Relevant), maybe we should call it “whistleblowing”, rather than “doxxing”… :7

The molds yes do cost maybe low. But the RnD designing them takes time.

While we are unlikely to see StarVR One from pics of og StarVR & the One. Both seem to use a similar fried egg design.

I still highly doubt StarVR’s standing claim of 210° Horizontal FoV. Was hoping StarVR One would have released as it could then have proper scrutiny with tools like @oscar_rov & @risa2000 have developed.

I am hoping the Reddit fellow whom bought the Xtal uses these tools. But I do suspect VRgineers claims to be valid. :beers::thinking::vulcan_salute::sparkles:

This was due to reddit reveal of Info anyone could have found through Google. Not through hacking or using elevated priviledges to disclose private non publically available info.

Pimax makes their lenses in house, so for them the R&D and scale is probably more costly. That is why someone needs to test it with lenses optimized to each FOV.

Thanks, one learns new words every day! I tried Google translate which did not understand it, but it is indeed in English dictionaries.

Sjef wasn’t doxxing. He was pointing out pimaxusa uses multi accounts both on this forum and others.
As helio said, there was nothing exposed that can’t be found by typing him into google.

Naive me, thought we had this whole sjef situation behind us by now.
Also dunno what @Neoskynet thinks about polluting his thread.

It should be but its hard for it to be behind us when hes rocking a permanent ban for a false reason.
Also most people are unaware of his ban so i think more & more people are going to notice his disappearance & ask more questions.

Also tbf its probably the most fitting thread for it lol

Im glad to be honest. That guy was too toxic.

I remember him encouraging and offfering to pay for a lawsuit against pimax because some testers didnt get their FREE testing headsets on time.

I never saw that post or one like it. Only complaint I saw was that the other m1 testers were not being honored as per the agreement in being able to
A) Present together/release their evaluations.
B) Or receiving first for being M1 testers.

As advertised.

@Rage
I remember that well but the way you just put it isnt the full story.

He did offer to pay legal fees as it was looking likely they were being shut out of the testing because of their critical opinions on the m1 & would not receive an m2.
If so, they would not get to do their review, after the work they put in testing.

Now i never got involved in that conversation & i stayed firmly on the fence due to it being a bit of a hot subject i had little knowledge of but i believed i saw some valid points although most would prob see legal action as ott.

Some see opinions that make them think, others see toxicity i guess.
It seems to be a matter of opinion.
