Pretty sure it’s in March and I opened a ticket and upgraded for 100 bucks.
I may need to do the same
As has been said that part isnt finished and this is waaaaay overblown. The driver itself is rather expensive. Missing audio chamber and not mounted at proper angle. Also even in this crazy tough environment without all the mounting hardware or the proper angle it is still decent.
I still don’t understand, it feels like you’re cutting costs to aim at people who already have their own audio solution like headphones, but then again the headstrap will probably block normal headsets. What on earth motivated you to attempt to copy the valve index without copying any good aspects of it?
??? Every piece of the mas is more premium than the DAS. What are you talking about? Hundreds of people said it was top notch in every way. Only even slightly negative take on it was mrtv who is trying it in an area similar to a construction site.
It’s more along the lines that you had a solution like the vive das, over the ear, that would bring good audio quality, and it was free to all backers. Now, what we’re getting for free is something that won’t bring the same audio quality in any shape, so if they want it they need to pay you more money to get closer they were originally promised.
Hi Kevin, can i take out the speakers in the finished product and use my own headphones?
I have ordered an 8KX and am looking forward to it
If the mas is more premium than the deluxe audio strap then what is the deluxe 100 bucks more? Now I’m wondering if I made the correct decision to upgrade.
I think he meant the “DAS” as the vive/index deluxe audio strap, I know, confusing language, we tend to call it “upgraded MAS”, or the “deluxe MAS”.
WRT what was not finished at CES, what I heard you say in the video was that only the cover over the driver itself was not a production piece. Are you saying that the cover that was used muffled the sound, altered it, or directed away from the ears significantly? I guess we’ll see what Sebastian and others say about the audio once they can listen in a more typical environment. I’m not holding my breath, though.
I’ve been waiting for reports on the 8K X from CES to decide whether to order one or not. I’ve had one concern about the lower-than-I’d-like max refresh rate of 75 Hz in non-upscaled mode, but this, IMO, cheap way out Pimax took (despite your comment about the driver being expensive) on what should be an all-around premium HMD, really bothers me. I expected at least the auditory-immersion level my Vive DAS offers, and from the sound of it this won’t be available in the base MAS. As a backer with a 5K+ it upsets me that the same defficient audio solution is used in the long-awaited MAS for that unit. Aaaargh!
No, they talked about the electronics had changed and the cover did not fit so used a different one, Well I think that`s what was hinted at.
Why demo anything that isn’t of great quality at a demo fair where reviewers will review it… CES deadline was known well in advance and you missed the deadline. Just don’t demo it sub par.
I Honestly think they should get rid of the over the ear audio, My wife certainly dose not need to hear the audio from the DAS when she is watching TV.
She can almost hear the Index if I have it to loud.
You mean “off the ear audio” right? “over the ear” means its a cup/thing that goes over your ear. Although I realize in this case it’s technically “over your ear” in a physical sense given it’s above it, but no one predicted anyone would make a dumb design like this.
well i like this “dumb” design. there’s plenty of normal options with on ear / over ear headphones and they offer the deluxe upgrade as well. This above ear and index’ off ear designs gets out of the way and appeals a lot to me and if the sound is good enough I’ll love them.
Honestly, the vive DAS speakers are passable but a far cry from great. Compared to the CV1 headphones they are lacking oomph.
This design is a worry and not good if you’re watching porn or wish to be fully immersed without hearing external sounds. At least you offer two jacks for earbuds etc. In fact why don’t Pimax include a left & right short cable earbud as well. Surely these are cheap to manufacture?
Since it’s called a "modular audio strap, i expect the above ear solution to have a click on click off system, where one can put a mod or upgrade later in place. @SweViver ?
After all, modularity was the basis of the Pimax hmd’s as stated some time ago?
I don’t like to upgrade for three reasons, to the deluxe one: First, being: At Kickstarter, An over ear design was promised. Second: The upgrade is way too expensive, third: An even longer wait for the MAS to arrive. I really would appreciate a design resembling the one at the time of the KS campaign, like many here do.
