The GPU utilization boost is not only working with DCS World, it works in SteamVR games too!

IMO, to solve all the problems, I think Pimax should purchase both Microsoft and Nvidia (new kickstarter campaign ?^^)

Let’s hope it’s the problem we’re all experiencing and not something else they’re talking about. I expect the update to roll out (2 months btw, wth?) and still be left with the same issue.

Needless to say I have zero confidence in anyone.

Hi SweViver. I tried 72Hz and the right eye glitches still happen. Any other ideas?

Yes, this appears to be Microsoft’s fault.

unconfirmed

two ways to get the confirmation:

  • check if the problem persists using an old Windows version
  • wait for the fix and see if the problem persists

Is this problem only happening with Pimax or with any headset?

It has been reported for other headsets and even for flat gaming (on a monitor).

ye thats right , I am getting way too often 90 % gpu utilization in Hunt Showdown maxed out in 2560x1440 with an rtx 2080 ti and 9900k @ 4.7 ghz on all cores . I always had 99 gpu utilization before in this game … So Microsoft screwed up

The right eye glitch happens when the GPU utilization is too close to 100%. Lower some settings - it takes some experimenting to have it around 90%.

tried the newest win 10 fast insider build and it makes pimax/pitool unusable, lags the whole system

Thanks for the report. That is bad news indeed.

As mentioned, right eye glitch happens when the GPU is too near max. Best way to fix this is to find settings that allow a locked frame rate (pick any hz option and make sure it can hit that at all times). Or use smoothing, although this negates a lot of the need for the GPU tweak in the first place. Find a hz option that your PC can manage comfortably at around 90%.

Just played with the first htc vive and it was a BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE compared to my pimax xr :frowning : (

Colors were MUCH better , and I had always 90 fps LOCKED even in games like Zero Caliber and Arizona sunshine with a gpu usage of 85% on my rtx 2080 ti .The Resolution and fov is bad ofcourse but the whole experience was much better because of framerate and colours.

Wtf is the Pimax Company doing … I should probably buy the valve index …

A Valve Index isn’t going to have much more to offer in terms of color reproduction - compared to HTC Vive - as it too uses LCD screens.

ye I know that sucks …

Shocking !! higher FOV and higher resolution bring the performance down ?! If only I knew … >__<

Sure, Pimax distorsion profile doesn’t seem that efficient to me either (judging from the resolution SteamVR is using with 1.0/100% supersampling and large FOV), but don’t expect to have the same performance as the HTC Vive with the Valve Index either (still probably better than Pimax since barely any FOV increase) since it has higher resolution too.

Moreover, when HTC vive was released, there was almost no gpu strong enough to run the games at 90 fps… I remember to have played PCars 2 at low with a 1070 GTX…

Not sure what you’re trying to say. Should we expect sub par usage of the GPU due to higher settings? Does this not seem completely backward? 60hz with Vsync on a monitor can bring about 50% usage of a GPU without issues, that’s to be expected. What’s not expected is a target of 90hz with a resulting 60hz while at 60-70% usage of the GPU.

It’s not the unrealistic expectation of users, it’s a fundamental flaw in the render process and the full usage of the hardware. Reduced performance compared to overall available resources should only occur when all other targets are met (resolution, frame rate, FOV, etc).

At the moment this is only the case in a few titles out of many.

I SO want this utilization thing to get properly fixed! I have not been able to get “the trick” to work in rF2. Why would it work for some but not all? Though I cant get the trick to work I have seen that my system yields up to 98% utilization (if I tax it hard enough) the very first time I run rF2. It lasts about 1 minute then drops to 60-70%. Then, the only way to get the high utilization again is to completely restart rF2. Last week I could get it back to high utilization by reloading the track but not now. Must quit and restart rF2. All very strange and not consistent. Drives me crazy.

You recon any of the companies (PiMax, Nvidia, Valve, Microsoft) are really working on it or is it just a pip way off on the edge of their radar? Has anyone probing them gotten any feedback lately?

Apparently, Microsoft has fixed their bug, but the patch has not yet been installed, unless you are enrolled in the Microsoft Windows early access program (called Windows Insider). It won’t be released to the general public for MONTHS until the end of August.

Personally, I will be waiting on the official release. There’s no way I would run a Windows “beta” on my PC; imo, it’s too risky.

[update] I found it. @DrWilken posted the info earlier in this thread. Here’s the info…
