The forest VR update parallel projections issue

Hi Guys. Endnight have done a fantastic update for ‘the forest’ in VR. Thing is I’m having what looks like a parallel projections issue, but enabling it doesn’t seem to fix.

It’s rendering the fog in the sky in one eye only, which looks pretty awful. Has anyone else seen this? I’m wondering if it’s not Pimax but an issue for the game dev.

This is by far still one of my favourite VR titles, especially now they’ve sorted out loads of issues.

Did you remember to restart SteamVR on switching the PP settings on/off in Pitool?

All I can say is that The Forest works with a non-Pimax headset.

Yes, my whole machine has been restarted since I created the game profile for it in pitool. Could still be something with my setup though I was sure PP would fix what I’m seeing.

I think the only way to be sure would be to dust off the vive.

That would be a good way to compare as with old slide view master the 3d effect was created by only having part of an image on one eye only.

Also if nothing helps you could try fiddling with the game graphics settings see if that makes a difference. Try “low” settings to troubleshoot.

I think at some point I had a problem with DIRT rally (flat) of fog or textures being messed up, it happened to be some AA setting was the culprit.
Anyway, this is a different thing being probably 3D related. Good luck.

Thanks chaps will experiment some more when I get home.

Forest running way better now otherwise, they upgraded to the latest unity engine.

Did I hear right they also finally fixed turbo vr wood cutting? Lol

Neat, following this thread. I always wanted to try out The Forest in my Pimax.

I don’t think so, I can still swing the axe like a maniac.

Here’s the patch notes. Note that if you want to try this, you need to select ‘VR beta’ under the beta tab in steam.

It even has full finger track for index controllers, not that it has any more use than flipping off your multiplayer colleagues.

Damn, I had hoped to stop being the dedicated lumberjack, as I play with non-vr folks.
But now I can at least flipp them of when they ask me to cut some wood

I just started it up with parallel projection on and looks and runs great :+1: I have not played it for a while and would say it looks a lot better than I remember.

It also runs with parallel projections off but I don’t seem to be getting any extra performance according to the FPS app .

Yes, the game technically doesn’t need parallel projections, as the issue I’m having isn’t actually fixed by PP. If you stand on the coast and look out to sea, the fog clips at the horizon. If you close one eye (right?), it looks ok. I think I will have to reach out to the devs to sort it, although Endnight aren’t so great at talking to us, but I think they do read the Steam discussions.

It does look better than ever, with a new unity engine and some optimisations. The lighting in caves with the cig lighter etc looks great. Scaring myself with my own shadow.

My favourite fix is the quickslot function now works in VR, you can take out your backpack, and stow whatever you want on it for fast access. you can also map any buttons to anything with the new steam remapping.

I’ll screen cap my settings because I don’t think I have this issue.
