Technically yes thats possible. The Pimax devs would need to add a black “mask” to mask out a bit of the image. Im not sure if they will bother though. Feels a bit weird to decrease the vertical FOV, when its so great
Agreed! Pimax has bigger fish to fry like making knuckles work, motion compensation work, and low gpu usage on the software side of their house which are more a priority as they are things actually broken. Fixing the gpu usage issue will give the original poster the extra performance he is looking for anyway!
But in the real world you see the helmet in your vertical fov. So it should render the helmet up there to be more immersive. Project cars and other racing games have a view that puts you in a helmet to make it more realistic already. Why not boost performance via fixing the gpu usage as Sweviver has discovered? It was found to be quite substantial.
Michael, true that you see your helmet in your view if look at it. But if you look ahead it just blocs your vertical FOV. I just tested this with my motorcycle helmet. With helmet on you cant see your legs and only about half your steering wheel.
This is from iRacing forum:
Racing helmets are 25deg vertical and 180-210 horizontal depending which standard is being quoted.
Snell (not one permitted in ANZ) is 180deg
ECE (one of the two standards permitted in ANZ) is 210deg.
