Now that Pimax headsets show up on Steam Hardware Survey, I had a quick look at the numbers.
Steam has around 90 million active users and 1.67% of those surveyed had a VR headset attached to their PC at the time of the survey = just over 1.5 million headsets in use.
Of those, Pimax 5K Plus shows up as 0.28% and Pimax 8K shows up as 0.02%, so 0.30% in total - 8K+ and Artisan not showing up enough to be counted separate.
0.30% of 1.503 million = 4,509 Pimax headsets in active use.
I was part of this latest survey with my 5K+. I was positively surprised that Pimax is now listed.
You cannot really use it for HMDs in active use though. Not everyone gets the survey. It is random.
It is somewhat good to see a rough estimation of % but total numbers - not a all!
its good to see an estimation of percentage, but percentage of what?
0.30% of Steam VR users us Pimax, so where would you derive your total user base of Steam VR from?
Steam have given us their estimation because they say they have 90 million active users of whom 1.67% use VR, what would your Steam VR user base be instead?
I’m not suggesting anything about total sales or users of Pimax in total, just a roungh estimate of how many SteamVR users use pimax, which is exactly what the steam hardware survey is a survey of
my 5K+ would have been missed, because it was in a box not being used, so not an “active user”
