"Setup was unable to automatically close all applications" during Pitool 1.0.180 installation - HMD not working

Anyone else is having the same issue? I uninstalled all Pimax software, disconnected HMD and tried to install again - same problem.

The headset (Pimax 5K+ appears as being detected, but when I put it on I only see the Pimax logo, not the volcano/moon/mountain scene, and SteamVR is likewise unable to establish connection to the headset.

the steam vr integration is done by this
C:\Program Files\Pimax\SteamVRSupport\drivers\aapvr\bin\win64\driver_aapvr.dll
check if it is present, there might be problem with your virus protection software preventing this part to be installed, we have seen this earlier as the microsoft protection had a false positive, pimax installed needed to be whitelisted and later it was automatically whitelisted be MS

edit: to check the validity of the installer, its signed and you can compare the cert with older versions of the installer

Hi,

that DLL was locked by the vrservice-something process - I unlocked it and removed it prior and during the installation, but to no avail.

I also don’t use antivirus of any sort, and sadly the installation process did not inform me exactly what application it was trying to close.

I inspected the Windows Events Viewer looking for clues, but I couldn’t find any.

Summon Taskmanager Kill all Pi related named processes. Might be an idea to exit steam & try install again. I would reccommend maybe re downloading Pitool as there maybe an issue caused by download.

I already did that sadly

I have to add that I use Windows 7, and while nowhere it is written that this version requires W10, I cannot rule out that this might be an issue.

Is there anyone else using W7 that successfully installed 1.0.180?

Yeah W7 could be problematic with it’s age. Have you tried an Uninstaller & registry cleaner?

Might be an idea to submit a ticket & see if they can setup a Teamviewer session.

@Enopho might have some suggestions on this as well.

Umm. Based on the title of this thread… People are assuming that the issue is that pitool app is running during install? But that may not be the case. If another app is running on the machine during startup that can impact pitool installation then if will always fail to install and give that exact message!

Have you tried booting to safe mode with networking and install pitool there… Then see if you get prompted that there is an app stopping pitool installation?

Thanks @Enopho, I’ll try that too.

Has it happened to me anyway, windows 7 too, any solution?

Hey @anon74848233, me and @Rick were unable to install Pitool 1.0.180 - both of us are using Windows 7.

Has this version been tested on a Windows 7 machine? Is there anything in this version that specifically requires Windows 10?

if you want to test a little more, it is possible to unpack the pimax installer with innounp (Inno Setup Unpacker) Version 0.48
you will get 6 additional setup exe files and i guess one of them might fail
PiServiceSetup.exe
pvr_home_setup.exe
pvr_oc_support_setup.exe
pvr_runtime_setup.exe
pvr_steamvr_driver_setup.exe
SetupFont.exe (the one has i file date from 1/2019, so it did not change and will not be the source of the problem)

but it will probably not solve your problem, just a little more information whats going on

@anon74848233, @PimaxVR - any update on this? I still cannot install the newest drivers.

@Matthew.Xu can you help @EmanueleCiriachi. Emanuele have you filed a support ticket? A teamviewer session maybe needed to identify issue.
