Dr. Kaii’s profiler allows you to create separate profiles for when you play VR or desktop. I use the app to create a profile for my Pimax and then load the app, click that profile, then load ED from the desktop app. No Steam.
Then if you’re bored of VR (lol) just create a desktop profile and use that. It should load a non-VR desktop version.
In the VR profile in the DrKaii app make sure you use “HMD Headphones”. Set the quality depending on your computer’s hardware and power.
Once you set this up it’s super simple to switch back and forth
I wasn’t sure what was meant by just download ED from Steam and use login name and password (somehow didn’t think you would be allowed to do that) but I’ve finally got the game running in the HMD from a desktop launcher (though its looking like I might have to remap my hotas buttons). The game looks cool in normal FOV but seems a little on the low res side (similar to CV1) so I’m guessing there might be some kind of resolution scaling (smart smoothing?) depending on the strength of the graphics card!
That ED profiler sounds interesting so I’ll definitely be taking a look at it. Thanks for all the suggestions.
