In one of Voodoo’s last updates he talked very short the he will soon receive a HMD from Pimax but its not the 8K-X…And he can’t talk about what it is…
Have I missed something? The only other HMD I know is the RE Edition…
i hope an rgb oled, then i maybe want it if the housing is stronger…
That wouldn’t be a bad guess, though. :7
I still wonder what (if Pimax can’t update their optics to flatten the field, which would make the excercise unnecessary) a “linear” version of the current models would be like: Sacrifice the canting, and along with it 20° FOV, for better focus consistency between the eyes. :7
Pimax 8K A$$ (Audio $trap $olution)
If it’s a headset with different panels, there are 2 possibilities I can think of: 2560x1440 full RGB OLED or 3840x2160 full RGB LCD driven at 2560x1440. That is, a 5K++ and an 8K+. Both these headsets would greatly benefit from full RGB: They would be brighter with less SDE and no color fringing (due to omitted sub pixels). An 8K+ might make sense; Pimax could use the LCD from the 8K-X as a limited run with existing components, to do early QA testing, before shipping the pricier 8K-X.
If there’s no new panels, I agree that the RE edition is a likely possibility.
8k+ (8k With better Lcd Screen) i think.
If everything is really the case, and Pimax has a new 8K + with real 4K RGB panels ready, then I hope we can exchange our 8K to 8K+ with minimal losses or no loss at all.
(We were supposed to get 8K initially with 4K RGB-panels, and not with PenTile-panels with an incomprehensible resolution, making the current 8K at the 5K + level.)
Although I really like my 8K, but I do not have enough resolution in car simulators: Assetto Corsa, etc.
A new 8k with true 4k displays, but still restricted to on-HMD upscaled 1440p content, feels like it would only be artificial crippling of a good and probably expensive screen, at this point (EDIT: for probably marginal BOM difference with the 8kX), but if it came to be, it should damn well altogether supplant the current 8k.
There could be a slot in the product lineup for a pentile 4k screen OLED version, though, to demote the 5kXR to a lower tier, and replacing it in its current spot.
A 5K+ with better screen utilisation like the Xtal would be almost perfect.
Or they bought the star vr one and bring that one to the market…(lol i keep on dreaming,i want the star vr one)
I want them to do a full fov rgb stripe 144hz. Don’t care if oled because the cost just doesn’t make sense.
That was I believe an Engadget error in Article.
The eyetracking modul!
Before making a new hmd, they should produce a flawless 5k+ !
All the current Pimax headsets are based on the same base design, almost same firmware, soft and hardware so unless drastic changes are done they Improve in parallel… A new headset doesn’t necessarily mean slower progression/Bug Fixed for the 5K+ and the 8K.
Nah, guys, you’re completely wrong-footed, all of you (save for Leppermessiah)
It’s just a plain 5K+ or 8K but WITH lighthouse stations, audio strap etc…
Pimax will market that as a new product so they can start delivering these to the customers while we are still waiting for our outstanding deliverables. Smart, he.
It could be along the lines of a P4K CV2. All they need is to wack one of those Sony 4k HDR mobile panels into a P4k shell. It would be a winner
That would be so messed up… but it’s crazy to think that Pimax would keep releasing new headsets without lighthouses to track them or controllers to interface with them.
Now that would be awesome. With the og 4k lenses with new upgrades. Was hinted during ks that they were working a new revision.
It’s the “pimax sport” they spoke about a while ago.
