Screen isn't working

I can’t get the screen to work on my Pimax 4k VR headset. I have a blue light, and the headphones work, but my computer can’t detect it as a monitor. It also says “can only be displayed in extended mode” but I can’t even do that considering it can’t be detected as a monitor. I’m running a gtx 1070 graphics card on a brand new alienware R6 so I don’t think it’s a compatibility issue. I also already tried going to “display options” , “monitors” , “show hidden” and that didn’t work. Please advise.

May we know why do you want to have headset detected as a monitor? Its not a monitor, you know, and its not required for headset to work.

As far as I can tell I need the headset to be detected as a display in order to extend the screen. I only detect one screen atm, which is my monitor. So extending the screen is useless. I’m in pimax mode though and have the option for video mode… but the whole point of this was to play steam games so Idk if that matters.

I’m referring to “extend mode” because I get the error message that says I need to turn off my integrated video card and can only run in extend mode… Idk how to turn off the integrated video card; tried getting into BIOS but didn’t want to mess anything up.

Are you using laptop or desktop pc?
Is anything connected to your integrated card?

Extended mode is not for games, so even if you will switch to extended mode it is not recommended for games (with the latest pimax version it will not even allow you to play games in that mode).

You dont need to extend your displays to play games. If you’re already in pimax mod then you do it correctly. Start steamvr and play games, thats all.

Try to ignor that message. Start pimax mode, start steamvr, try any VR game first, come back if you will have any issues

Do I have to start a game before the headset screen will turn on? I tried calibrating the screen with “set up room” and it was completely black

I’m not really sure if calibration required, but try to add the distance between headset on the table and the floor at 120, any other setting within calibration can be skipped. Means lay your headset at the table, press continue until it will require from you to add something, add 120, finish.
To find out if headset works or not you can run a display mirror and move your headset, if nothing appears in headset then there is definitely some issue and you will probably need to disable integrated video.

You need to upgrade the computer’s graphics driver to change this phenomenon. It said “can only be displayed in extended mode” is because of your computer has Integrated Graphics. But that does not affect your normal use.

I tried both “cm” and “inches” in the floor settings but it is still completely black. I have yet to see anything in the headset.

…Set at 120*…

I have no idea how to update my computers graphics drivers. I only got this computer a couple months ago and the gtx was installed by dell. I doubt the drivers are “too old” considering I’ve had my computer for less time than the latest download/headset itself was released.

So tell us what is happening when you turn on window mirroring. Does the picture moves if you move your headset (on your monitor)? Is there any picture in headset?

When I turn on mirroring the picture on my monitor moves, but nothing is shown in the headset. It remains completely black. (no back light or anything)

Step by step: close steamvr, close pimax, open task manager, go to services, click “open services”, find piservicelauncher, stop, start, start pimax, start steamvr, mirror window. If still no picture - need to disabled integrated video, no other solution is possible i guess.

I tried that all and nothing changed. Then I went to “device manager” and disabled my intel HD graphics 360 but still no change… is that the integrated graphics? and do I need to restart to enable the changes? It’s still set to disabled.

You cant disable it from windows, its something you need to do in your bios. You can simply google for it. Add your pc model name and a question “how to disable integrated video bios”, pretty sure its a common thing and guide to do that will take only couple steps with no risks for pc. Since your monitor and VR headset are connected to your GTX card you dont need integrated video at all.

I tried looking that up on google with the aurora r6 but it’s so new that no one has really done it yet. In my device manager I have the option of the gtx 1070 and the intel hd graphics 360 (which I think is my integrated graphics). A forum I was reading said I could just disable it there so I wouldn’t need to use Bios but it still had no effect. I guess I’ll try rebooting my system to see if anything changes but I think I’m just about to send this back to amazon and get an oculus rift

No offense, but you’re going to change a bike for a car only because no one knows where the fuel cap located, although the way to open is always same. Driving a car will be easier, but still need to learn new things and expect problems, still have to fuel tank and it’s not exactly same experience as a bike
