Samsung Odyssey+ Discussion. Review - Through the lens comparison

Love the no B/S first impression :+1: Now I’m contemplating whether to sell the thing unopened when it arrives

It’s no competition for pimax at all. It’s actually mind boggling how a a small Chinese company beats Samsung at almost every aspect.

Thanks for the impression.

I can see where your coming from. When I tried the Odyssey it amazed me how much the little things can totaly screw up a headset. Ergonomics and that Win MR portal lol

Mixed feelings on the Ody+ here. I’ve quite enjoyed messing with it, but some great features are spoiled by lots of WTF?.. Nice its not just me that saw the distortion!

1 point for the headstrap+audio, looking forward to pimax releasing theirs as its one major part of the pimax experience that’s annoying me the most.

@Mlkconcept posted on my pimax experience thread the mod he’s done: https://community.openmr.ai/t/pimax-5k-received-early-experience-spamenigma/9402/472

Uh !!! What is the reason for that ? You have headset’s HDMI port, monitor is HDMI… :upside_down_face:

How does it visually compare to vive pro

The ergonomics of the odysseys are strange… but there are people with the same head as the designer, then is very very comfortable, thats my case, i was sure i was going to return them because lot of people was annoyed by that, but I had good luck.

On the other hand the software and the controllers are shit, compared with vive or rift… but you need to fight a little, once you get all in place it gets better. Buy a very powerfull light bulbs and eliminate mirrors, you will get better tracking.

The software is shit and you need all windows services and shit on to get it working, and it burns the eficiency… Once i get the hmd working i get razer cortex to eliminate everything not needed.

There are lots of games that dont support the controller at all or support them badly, but all the new games work fine and I think the software is going to be better, i think if you are lucky and is comfortable in your head, is a good option vs the high priced vive pro…

In my case i use iracing 90% of the time and the other 10% are puzzle or adventure games, i dont like shooters or arcade games so the controllers are not very important for me

Hope my 5k+ kicks the od+ out

sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the OD+… I have the OD+ and it does show me on screen the IPD value. Anytime I adjust the IPD on the HMD it pops up in my HMD. I do also have a discomfort issue with the Samsung… but working on fixing that but haven’t finalized it…and might never do so. The best I got was Evertec’s idea of combing two face-cushions. Having tried the 5K+ at a backers meet though I have no doubt it will be hard to go back to a small-FOV but I also had much discomfort issue with the 5K+… I’m sure I’ll have to work on that as well once I receive it.

Mmm… I think all of you have strange faces…

Or maybe… you are aliens wanting to enter the virtual word and once pimax controls and ties us all to their vr kingdom can wash our minds so they control our way of life and make us eat mcdonalds and buy mocosoft software…

Or maybe you just have strange faces

who wouldn’t want to buy ā€œmocosoftā€ software? I love moco in just about everying… coffee, ice-cream and even VR!!!

Not sure what you mean? Most modern cards only have 1 HDMI port and I need that one for my monitor. So going to see if I can buy a converter. Damn, what was samsung thinking to use HDMI instead of DP …

Yeah it might have to do with the fact that I had my monitor connected to the internal video card and the O+ to my 2080TI

Not sure yet, because of the HDMI issue I haven’t been able to use SteamVR yet (which demands monitor and HMD connected to the same card). For sure the SDE is a huge difference, I really like Samsung’s anti SDE, but will have to try some games for more in depth analysis

If you have two pc’s you could possibly install tight-vnc or chrome remote desktop on both computers and remote control your vr-pc from a tablet/notebook while having the OD+ plugged into the hdmi
Pretty sure that can work

I recently picked up an O+ after both myself and my daughter owning HP WMR headsets for nearly a year now. I haven’t had a chance to use it a lot yet, but the O+ is just a better overall experience. Unlike other people, I have had no issues with the controllers on either the HP or the O+. They work just fine on both headsets.

The display on the O+ is naturally the big improvement. SDE is nearly gone. It does seem to have a small sweet spot, but it only took a few moments of adjusting the headset strap in order to get it centered over my eyes.

And as far as the head strap goes, I guess I don’t have one of those strange faces because I can get it to fit just fine. There’s a little light leakage around the nose flaps that I may try to address. But overall, it’s a good headset in my opinion.

The only bummer was that the non-powered USB 3.0 extension cable that worked fine on the HP yielded the screechy audio syndrome that so many other people discovered. So I’ll have to pick up a different cable or maybe a used Vive breakout box from eBay. No big deal.

$300 for a VR headset with this display, a head strap with built-in audio and controllers thrown in the deal as well? As MRTV said, ā€œIt’s a no-brainerā€.

What is your opinion about SDE of 5K+ vs O+?

Thanks!!

Oh that’s easy, O+ SDE is much better, it’s damn near perfect.

What other vr headset besides pimax has ever used displayport? As far as I know they all use hdmi

Yeah but in the past older video cards used to have at least 2 HDMI ports. The industry really moved onto DP and modern videocards now mostly only ship with 1 HDMI port, so that’s going to be an issue for people, not just for me.
