Room setup are not stored by pitool or steamVR

Hi.

i have an problem where i have to do room setup for both pitool and steamVR every single time restat pi tool or the pitool service…

and i can’t figure out why?
i’m running pitool V1.0.2.087 V2 and Experince v0.84 with an 8KX but have experienced this problem with previous versions of pitool. but not as frequent as now.

provirus i used an 5K+ on the same system and installation.

Pitool are running with admin rigth’s

i have tried to delete all files in the lighthouse folder and restart the service… but it do still not store the setup.

as long ar pitool are running steam VR seem to remeber it’s setup… but when ip service are restated it acts like it’s newly installed or it’s a brand ned HMD.

its the same if the pc are rebooted (ofc. as this will naturly reboot pi service also)

the next thing i have on my list are to try to make an clean install of windows and stat from there.

Hope that some one can give me an good hint.

My best guess is that it’s an issue with steam, seeing that it is a SteamVR configuration (the playspace) that is

You haven’t made Your SteamVR config read-only, have You?

I’m only asking because some seem to think it’s a great idea to prevent SteamVR from updating the config (the GPUhorsepower values or whatever they’re called)…

The strange thing are that both steamVR and the Pitool setup seem to reset… or at least the Pitool setup guide starts each time pitool start and then Steam VR are messed up too.
I have tried to simply skip the Pitool guide… but do not change any thing

No i have not, and have double cheeked. And the strange thing are that Steam VR can remeber the setup and restart… but if i restart pitool or just the service it seem to reinitilize the room setup for both iptool and steamVR and both are messed up also if i skip the setup in piTool…

so i have to do this setup every day as i turn the PC off when i sleep to save power… i’m getting a bit tired of it by now…

That’s really weird. I think I would contact support unless someone comes up with a suggestion here soon…

You might have found an otherwise unseen bug in PiTool?

PiTool should, as far as I remember, just import the settings from SteamVR if they’re gone (that’s why You can just delete the lighthouse folder), so it seems that’s the part that’s broken for You?

SteamVR stores all room geometry and such in one file, which moved a while back…

Old location…

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\"chaperone_info.vrchap

New location…

“%LOCALAPPDATA%”\openvr\chaperone_info.vrchap

If you delete these two files, possibly run PiTool or SteamVR in administrator mode, the settings might be saved persistently…

Then again, this all seems rather strange, and should not be happening, unless maybe you are trying to do VR with an unprivileged (non-Administrator maybe?) user account…

This are getting stranger and stranger.

i do not have the file in the New location but in the old… i did delte it and did the room setup again both in ip tool and steam VR.

and the file was recreated in the old location…

and yes this are what i did see when i did quit pi tool and stat it again.

and SteamVR are messed up again. (floor level are above my head until i recalibrate).

Then i did think it migth be that i had paused update of steamVR or are running a beta that i did forget about… but no. that was not the problem either.

i Will Plan to Reinstall my entire PC tomorrow… this must solve the problem… or make many more

Before you reinstall everything, try running Room Setup from SteamVR Settings Menu, instead of PiTool.

Hi i have run both the one in pitool and the one in steam VR each single time.
(i want the grid… it hurts to run into the wall  )

and steam VR are messed up just as soon as pitool starts and ask fro room setup… so it don’t help to just skip the pitool one adn just use steam vr :frowning:

where and how did you install pitool? is the hmd connected to the mainboard, or a PCI expansion?

Now that is a bit more interesting. You are prompted every time to run room setup?

This could be happening because the headset is positioned close to the boundaries of your room when SteamVR starts. That happens to me when my headsets are on a wall mount.

It are installed directly on the MB as it also was when it worked… so i don’t thik this are the problem.

Yes exactly.

You migth be on to some thing, as my HDM are on my desktop when i start PiTool, did the same thing in my old apartment witout any problem… but the sensor mounting position are a bit diffrend in my new room…

i Will have to test this.

I have tested it now, and the result are the same :frowning:

I have had the same issue with Pitools 1.0.2.086 & 087, but when i reinstalled 1.0.2.084 everything went back to normal and works fine.

Hi all Thanks for all the advice.

unfortanly we did not fin out what excatly the problem was.

i ended up reinstalling windows, Pitool and Steam Vr from scratch (did even delete all steam foulders except \Steam\steamapps\common but did delete steamVR sub directory under common.

After this i do no longer see the problem… so hopfully my VR gaming time cannow be used for VR gamin instead of troubleshooting

agian thanks to you all
