REQUEST: M1 Testers with Multiple GPUs

I think it’ll be interesting to test the 8K vs different GPUs to get a gauge on how it performs across the board.

I do not think too many VR games properly support M GPU spec or SLI/Xfire for that matter. I recall reading an article in early 2017 that tested and found minimal benefit. So unless pimax is doing something that offloads one screen render to each individual GPU this does not really make sense.

I think OP meant someone like me that has more than one GPU at his disposal (eg. 1 pc with an old regular 1080, 1 with a Titan Volta, etc.) to get a direct comparison on performance on the same applications, maybe seeing how much supersampling you can add too before losing the optimal framerate.

Ah good call. Misread that.

ATM I think only Serious Sam VR supports decent xfire/sli configs

I have used SLI up until my recent build. It works great when it works, and has saved me money in GPU upgrades. But there is less and less workability for SLI going forward. I’ve been disappointed in the last couple fo years by new releases. I would just put your funds into the fastest possible now, don’t bother with SLI.

I would agree. Plus if AMD’s recent papers are to be believed they are trying to use the infinity interconnect bus to link multiple GPUs on one PCB or 3D stack the GPUs in their next gen cards. If that is true perhaps we can have SLI/Xfire like performance without the typical drawbacks and microstutter since the game engines will see it as one GPU. Only time will tell.

I have to ask. If it was a good call then why go off topic to what was not meant and talk about sli/crossfire solutions for VR, which if not a total waste of time right now, should at least have it’s on thread?
You know it’s bad when you need to carbon date yourself to figure out when you started reading.

When I started playing Elite Dangerous, I had a 970 x 2 SLI set up and VR worked in SLI via alternate frame rendering and a bit of behind the scenes tweakage.
However, this didn’t last long… An update to their drivers put paid to that and disabled SLI in VR (Occulus).
I realised that NVIDIA wanted me to purchase the Titan which was touted as THE VR solution.

Since then I have never once been able to reenable SLI in VR and finally ended up getting a 1080 followed by a 1080ti.
SLI was great when it worked, but since most SLI users tend to be users of previous generation products (getting a second card to increase the life of their rig, often second hand) NVIDIA have all but abandoned it for monolithic, maximum margin products.

you can do that when you’re a monopolist.

Yeah and now Nvidia are making their partners abandon branding their AMD solutions the same as the Nvidia counterpart. Yet the government sits idle and does not break them up into smaller subsidiaries. This keeps up they really will snuff AMD’s consumer facing GPUs out.

But back to the topic I would like to see how my RX480 will compare with my VEGA FE on the Pimax.
