Received pimax 5k +

Got mine yesterday. God its a pig to get those fluid 90fps and i have a 2080ti and 3900x

I have to say i am impressed with the pitool and love the fact i can setup options per game and run it from the tool. I am also impressed with the smart smoothing, think it works quiet well. Heard people complaining about ghosting etc but i tried it in project cars 2 and dirt rally 2 and it was fine but its not the same real smooth 90fps…so i adjusted my visuals down to get a steady 90fps.

Agree on the light coming in from nose area. It can be pretty distracting. I was wondering if there is an alternative face pad/foam that does a better job. For example I have a samsung odyssey and i quite like the nose cover on that as it is flexible so is suitable for different nose sizes. Apparently some people like it (the light coming in…so they can see keyboard?). Personally when i put the headset on i want it to be dark and then light up with just the lenses (maybe i can get a nose job, make it fatter/bigger to fill the gap).

Also agree on the minimal wow factor. After all the reviews i was expecting a bit more wow. When i put it on i thought “this is ok”. It certainly wasn’t “wow this is outstanding”.

I also managed to get a crack in the left top corner after putting in on at most 5 times…seriously weak manufacturing standards. You grab the corners of the headset and pull it down over your face, so those top corners are always going to have some pressure on them … so re-enforce the corners? OR better still don’t have corners at all (look at all the other headsets, they are curved, fully moulded with no pointy corners to crack etc) … so now i have put foam padding round it lol Was thinking maybe someone who does phone covers/protectors could make a bit of money doing vr headset protectors.

Lastly there are people saying they couldn’t go back to their old headset… i could easily go back to my odyssey if someone gave me my $1100 bucks back (it costs $1100 in Australia). Sure it has better FOV than my odyssey but the picture isn’t better and nor is the performance… it’s certainly not worth $1100 AUD in my humble opinion…maybe i should give it a few weeks then go back to odyssey and see what i think then.

And because of that reason, my Pimax is in the box.

My 5K+ is gong back in the box now I have the Index, the Pimax is being RMA because of cracks and the headphone jack dose not work. when or IF I get the replacement I may just sell it, the index so far is way better, maybe if the dam DAS comes out for the Pimax I may give it another go.

Yeah, I haven’t lost ALL the hope with the Pimax either, but they got a lots of work to do and promises to fulfill before the experience is smooth.

Yes, it can be. I dim the lights, just like I do when gaming on my flat monitor. The Pimax HMDs typically require a bit of customization for an ideal fit. (I’ve added a counterbalance and some Velcro to thicken the face-pad a bit.)

In your case, I’d suggest filling the gap with a small piece of black cloth (perhaps from an old T-shirt).

I have a pack of black lint-free lens-cleaning cloths and after using a cloth for a few weeks, I toss it, so that’s what I would use to fill the nose-gap (if I ever feel the need to do so).

Funny you mention using cloth because that is what i did last night. Was playing dirt rally 2 and could see my legs moving as working the pedals, it was distracting me, so i got the small cloth i use for cleaning lenses and just stuffed it in the nose bit. Works pretty well.

Regarding the nose gap, there is a (removable) nose flap in the works which should be announced and released at the same time as the other accessories. Just a hint
