It’s been suggested a few times before. Maybe just a simple slider starting with 1 minute ending with never.

Exactly. What I had in mind were several steps of adjustments in Pitool. Something like this:

Switch HMD off or to standby after an inactivity of:
1 minute
3 minutes
5 minutes
10 minutes
15 minutes
30 minutes
60 minutes
never
