I’ve been thinking about this and I think that PPI doesn’t say much. For example Kopin are producing extremely small panels, so the PPI of those panels will be very high: 2940 PPI !! But since these panels are so small, the FoV is very small too. Kopin says they’re solving this with special lenses to get to 100 degrees FoV. But this then means that the amount of pixels in the virtual image that your eyes see is WAY lower.

So it’s not about the PPI of the display, it’s about the PPI of the virtual image that the lenses create. So I don’t think PPI of the display means much when it comes to VR. And a lower PPI panel could be much more suitable for VR than an extremely high PPI panel, because it might be very difficult to get a reasonable FoV on those panels.

How am i the only one who remembers that this topic was discussed at great length at time of kickstarter.
