Processing Fees on Stripe

Going forward any purchases I do with Pimax will be through a shield like Amazon where there is stock available, established RMA guidelines and process along with a very simple return and refund mechanism. So I hope that while I backed out of my 8KX option for now that I can return down the road when it’s like buying from a normal business. For example; Pimax should also be very clear that order cancellation is subject to a “stripe charge.” I don’t see that anywhere on my invoice. The company plays fast and loose with financial conduct regulations. The current structure leaves no confidence but is quick to take your money and reluctant to give it back. Products are MIA and answers are wrapped in corporate speak and deflection.

While I was enthusiastic in recommending the 5k+ to other sim racers in my group(s) for many months, I can no longer do that due to the above factors. I also have little confidence in a timely processing of my RMA so it’s very likely I’ll just use it until it dies and work around the issues as I have been; tape to cover the chips and not using the onboard audio jack. It’s a shame really. The company seems to be regressing rather than evolving.

Processing fees. Paypal has similar fees but is usually absorbed by the merchant. Just look up Stripe vs Paypal.

Paypal refund the fees when the merchant performs a refund. So do my credit card agent.

I’m shocked that stripe don’t and pretty sure most people would be able to do a charge back to get a full refund if they paid by credit card.

I would suggest posting issues about refunds in a different posting. This post was about 8K X delivery dates. (along with some other off-topic posts I keep seeing).

Which is what I said. These are normal fees that a customer usually doesn’t see.

No, as a merchant i dont have to absorb the fees, paypal refunds them to the customer for me.

And you pay the fees to paypal. So yes you as the merchant absorb the fee.

Some places call it a restocking or cancellation fee. Now it should be clear if this kind of action is there.

Tbh I thought pimax had resolved this either with Stripepay or discontinued using them. But yes the merchant pays for each successful transaction both purchases and refunds.

                   Nope WRONG,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

These disclosures very often are and should be made upfront. There’s nothing wrong with saying “refunds are subject to xx restocking fees.” It’s done all the time. You set an expectation and both sides are well aware of what is involved.

Right now, in typical fashion, everything with pimax is a surprise. Thus my recommendation to people is to use a trusted merchant like Amazon as an intermediary.

I’m sorry but that table is wrong, when i refund a customer, paypal does refund the fees.

Hi did a refund and i will loose money $44.88 handling fee . this is the first time that happened to me. pay something that i dont want and will not have it…

Up until recently, uk paypal have refunded all fees (minus 30p transaction charge) for refunds done using the refund buyer option.
Unfortunately paypal as recently (5th March 2020) in the uk has stopped this now & will keep all fees.
In the US they have been keeping all fees for a lot longer. I believe 2018 or 2019.

Under EU law, a seller MUST refund a buyer in full meaning if there’s a cost, the seller has to absorb it.
That is a legal requirement.

In the EU restocking fees are illegal. Full stop.
Anyone who tries to force this on you is breaking the law.

Unortunately for us, pimax isn’t in the EU.
Yet another reason to not buy direct from them.

I did the purchase with credit card, with the redund, the money returns to the credit card? correct? because they are talking about strip, but i didnt even know what it is. I dont have any accout in strip.

The thing is china is not in the EU so as you ordered from pimax in China, EU laws aren’t a legal requirement for them.

What they have done is minused off the transaction fees to make sure they didnt pay out any of their own money when issuing a refund.
(So they don’t take a loss)
In a way there is nothing too wrong with it, but its something we are not used to in the West.
When we ask for a refund, we expect to get all of our money back

There’s not much you can do about it, but this is just another warning for buyers that pimax is not an EU company & will not follow EU laws

Stripe is a pay platform used to process credit card payments. Typically Merchant pays the usage fees for using the platform. A friend here has a cash only store and does not accept any electronic transactions ie Debit/interac as they charge merchants for being able to use it…

As @Virtualmisterl has said we’re not used to this type of thing being passed on to the consumer. However this should have been made clear to the consumer prior to committing to the purchase.

Especially since this is not the first time this has surfaced regarding stripepay fees.

And as Op and Virtualmisterl have said best to buy where the rules and procedures are known with obfuscating details.

This really goes back to DONOT PreOrder from pimax as they are extremely unlikely to release product on time. If you decide on cancelling after months of non delivery it seems you will not get a full refund

Wait until the product materializes and stocked at a trusted distribution platform. You might pay more. However you will receive it faster(see Aliexpress vs ordering from pimax site - Artisan) and have less hassle if a refund is desired.

Thanks for the answer, well i know now that i will loose money. but with the refund the money goes back to credit card correct?

It should yes go back on the method payment. The Op Robert I believe paid by credit card. Stripe won’t have info to refund money to other methods.

Stripe is a payment gate.
