Potato mode, why not more hFOV and less vFOV?

I wonder why the different Field Of View options always only reduce the horizontal field of view, not the vertical field of view.
The potato mode really looks like a standing potato. I´d rather have a horizontal potato,

Is there anything that speaks against turning off some degrees in vFOV to gain some FPS?

The potato was just kidding to compare it to other HMDs. Not intended for play. But OK. xD

If you want more FPS, reduce the supersampling, thats all

I actually found PV useful in MSFS. Would like to be able to run it at 144Hz as I found 144 with SVR smoothing will run smooth even down to the 40s and 30s fps, unlike the higher refresh rates.
Given how MSFS has scaled back how autogen presents in the last patch, I’m not sure how much detail I might recover from pre-patch performance but would love have been able to test that refresh rate.

Reducing the SS reduces the clarity. The games where the Pimax still has performances issues (esp. with parallel projection) on high end system are sims, and sims need clarity. So reducing SS is not what I want, I want to be able to read labels and buttons and a HUD.

What I dont need is to waste render time for pixels above and below me. A normal motorcycle helmet has a vertical FOV of about 75°, F1 helmets have a lot less. But they do have a horizontal FOV of way beyond 180°, because thats where you need to see something

So when I lose pixels, I dont want to lose them left and right or in the center, but above and below me.
And thats why I would like to have a mode that doesnt reduce hFOV, but vFOV.

for me, it should be separate hfov and vfov, with the same parameters as what we have today with hfov.

Jep, exactly. Ideally it can be combined so that everyone can adjust it to its own needs
