In this forum, on reddit and in the kickstarter comments are a lot of good ideas for new features. While reading this every day i get a little scared that you put in too much in the end and the overall quality of the HMD would eventualy suffer.
Please consider only ideas which can be well tested in this short time till shipment.
Wait you don’t want this?
But yeah I agree.
agree 100 percent. on the plus side i think while pimax is keeping open ears, i dont think they will take any action thats going to hurt them in terms of feature creep because the cost is locked. Anything they add is coming straight out of their bottom line on kickstarter sales. thats a solid deterrent.
I see no problem with bringing ideas up. Of course not all of them can be implemented, but some of them could be used later in various add-ons (even from third parties) as Pimax headset has modular design.
They are shipping in two months (supposedly). They are still in the prototype phase (with at least one more prototype in development). They are already dedicating WAYY too much attention to things like controllers, head straps, things that nobody cares about, etc…
New ideas = distractions at this point. They need to focus on the only thing that matters - a 200 degree FoV high resolution headset.
In uppercase I have corrected you.
Yes, there is not much time left to make fundamental changes. I believe they know that and rather minor tweaks will be made. But there is no problem to make various accessories later. I see modular design as a strong point of Pimax. That you do not care about something does not mean that nobody cares and that it is not a business opportunity for headset producer or their partners.
It’s not the number of features, it’s how they prioritize them. So far they seem to be focused on the hmd.
glad they are, not just because of niggling 8k issues, but it ships a full month earlier than anything else by looks. so focus should be there
Just a show of hands -
How many people want Pimax dedicating resources to controllers (that we can get elsewhere), light houses (that we can get elsewhere), or add on modules (that are ultimately the responsibility of 3rd parties)?
Versus
How many people want Pimax dedicating resources to a next gen headset (that we can’t get elsewhere)?
Lets see the results of that poll, then you can “correct” my post.
I think they should finish the headset first as it’s most important. However I want the base stations and controllers also so it’s important to let them know what we want in case they have another team working on them at the same time.
Also as of right now we can’t get 2.0 base stations or Knuckle style controllers elsewhere as you have suggested.
+1
Enough of last minute ideas, focus on the production of HMD with the best quality possible.
It’s not the point…
I’m agree with your post if you want to know. But not with the way how you express it.
I know, I want, type.
We are all different with different opinions and we will use our headset probably for a millions different things. So it’s better to respect every opinion and start to use : I think, in my opinion, maybe.
That can be nice to people who actually read you.
But you can still do a poll…
I agree and hope that they stay focused on developing the HMD as already planned without wasting resources trying to implement a bunch of different new ideas. At some point you have to draw the line and produce something, and new ideas can just become a distraction at that point.
I don’t. The only reason I would is if they are bringing something new to the table, like thumb sticks. If it’s just a clone of knuckles, why not just get knuckles directly from Valve etc? But I am very interested if they give us something we can’t get anywhere else, like the headset itself.
OTOH they do need to make an all-in-one package for consumers, so they have to do something as far as a box to slap Lighthouses in and some kind of controls for people who don’t already own Lighthouse controllers. But if it isn’t going to be bold and different it should be simple and basic.
Completely agree, first a quality hmd, the resto secondary
Using reference designs & already have had 2 prototypes on controllers changing shape & features is not as great of task.
Why would i want v1 lighthouses? V2 are better & cheaper to build.
The headsets start shipping in Jan. Controlers & lighthouses start shipping in Feb.
Yes the headset is their top priority hence why the said 2 more prototypes. With the kickstarter closed they will have more time to focus directly on the headset. Without needing to showcase the headset in as many events as possible.
I ran into the same conclusion a while ago after thinking about this… I was initially against thumbsticks altogether…but realized that they either needed to make a perfect clone for cheap,.or separate themselves somehow (hopefully in a good way). In either case they should be aiming to meet the specs or surpass it
A lot of kickstarters have failed because they weren’t able to draw a line and made a feature stop. Who cares about thumbsticks if the headset dosn’t work properly?
i think both are important, but headset more than controllers. But controllers/stations are important because they break htc’s monopoly on steam vr peripherals. That cannot happen soon enough. Cant wait to get my headset, but also cant wait to see competition in the market.
