First of all, let me be perfectly clear. I hate delays but they are needed if the product simply isn’t ready. I’d rather wait a few months than get a half baked Piece of trash like what Google did with it’s Stadia launch.
That being said if you are going to delay something inform the very people that will be affected by it. It is called common courtesy. I’d like to thank @SweViver for being the only one answering the questions about when the 8K+/X is shipping although I doubt it will be ontime.
Not sure if anyone who ordered the + has an email that their stuff is shipping since it’s supposed to be this month but neither I nor any X Backers I know who plan to return the Loaners have received any instructions on how to do it.
I understand everyone is probably on damage control mode trying to answer as many tickets as they can from the technical issues caused during Pimax Day 2 but seriously, Pimax you are not doing yourselves any favors by remaining silent.
Too many tickets? I think Pimax surely do deserve them.
Who made customers to make that much of tickets by creating unintuitive, buggy, frequently changing (without announcing anything) options?
Pimax had to closed all the upgrade plans to refine plans or delayed them from the beginning as they always did.
Pimax are probably gonna say it is our fault for not understanding that they are a small company and that most people are perfectly happy, it is just a small percentage of backers that are unhappy and vocal on these forums.
And the people constantly posting threads about being unable to get a response from support after X days are because they are not using the correct support channel.
Also … only once they have a full package ready to sell, then you can expect better communication and marketing from them.
ADDED: well, at this point it is clear the 8KX is going to be a great device and I want one too. But as everyone says, the question is when will Pimax be able to actually deliver them and whether there will be a QA fiasco with people having issues and having to RMA but then support taking weeks to respond or never responding as before.
Exactly. The quality control and assurance is what is going to make and break the 8K+/8KX.
Although at this point I think Pimax just likes to make Pimax Day announcements just to screw with people so that no one knows what’s going on, all the timelines don’t matter and they wonder why everyone is asking questions when they can just post a simple straightforward text answer instead of a teaser to an announcement stream that will announce further delays.
I’d even be happy if Pimax would update us every two days with changing dates. Like: End of November. Then two days later: Still end of November: Two days later: We had some issues, maybe delay: Two days later: Yes delay, add week or so. Two days later: Add two weeks because the delay got delayed… etc.
This is a point worth repeating and is a significant contributor towards strong-arming backers into a very bad stretch goal ‘trade-in’ deal for ‘shiny new things.’
Pimax just wants the backers to go away.
Backers constantly pointing out the horrendous dis-functionality on the forum is a tremendous thorn in their side. Instead of just fixing the dysfunction, they will just claim that they’re a young company (they’re not) and their intentions are merely misunderstood.
It’s just those pesky backers that are going by what they do, instead of what they say, that is causing all the bad press and have made the company toxic to the VR community, writ large.
It’s like Pimax is going through the stages of grieving… with Robin primarily stuck in ‘denial’ and Kevin solidly in ‘anger’. The company needs to progress into ‘acceptance’ and start dealing with reality to dig themselves out of this deep hole they’re in.
100%. They are upset that they are being held accountable for bad faith dealing. I am pretty convinced they hedged their bets on one move- and that move was the “vision” rebrand.
And as to this argument about angry backers being a minority or even, more generously, a plurality- why not just give them what they want and shut them up? Wouldn’t that be easier than dealing with the constant fallout and damage to their brand? Heavens forbid, they might see people writing things along the lines of ‘Pimax corrected themselves and we are now happy to buy from this company again?’
The KS batch of headsets have inferior plastics and are likely going to continue to fail as the months tick on. They know this problem isn’t going anywhere and is likely to get worse. They could take it on the chin and do the right thing- or pull this “vision” hustle. Their silence speaks volumes. Robin Weng should be out there parading the new devices as a victory. Why so quiet, Robin?
I don’t know if “Vision” is a hustle or just an attempt to brand their second wave of releases (and also get distance from their initial launches, of course). Hustle just feels like a strong word.
This thread is absolutely on the nose, though. Once again we got a heartfelt apology from Robin and then… nothing has changed. We even hear from the COO that the PiDay 2 broadcast met internal targets – the same broadcast Robin personally apologized for.
Like you said, @Riccardo, this isn’t salvageable, and taking the time to keep Backers in the loop can only help keep them on Team Pimax.
I feel like the only one reliable is @SweViver . He at least tried to tell us info about the shipping during VR Days although I suspect he’s keeping quiet because the information wasn’t up to date. I don’t blame him since he’s probably not involved in the decisions made during that time and things change.
There are customers who paid over 1,300$+Shipping and whatever to get a chance of getting these headsets. I think the least you could do is inform everyone what’s going on.
I wonder if they’ve even begun manufacturing any 8K+s let alone 8KXs.
Remember during original 5K+ and 8K release how long it took for them to get manufacturing up to speed?
And then remember how many weeks it took just for the headsets to reach the overseas warehouses? Then the wait until it actually reaches you?
Chinese New Year wait seems likely … people should probably set their expectations. They haven’t shown any improvement so expect the same as last time.
Or it may be that actually everything is ahead of schedule (which has happened 0 times before) but they just decided to stop communicating (in the past, every time they stop communicating means a delay)
I’ve been really tough on Pimax making these pessimistic predictions … but by making them I hope to be proved wrong. Instead they’ve proven to always perform even worse than predicted.
They keep taking people’s money telling them their item will ship by a certain date and then the date comes and they go silent. Never meeting any set date.
It is crazy that people still haven’t received their base stations after … is it 2 years?
Haha, Pday2 met their internal goals. So the goal was to make at least 5000 backers pi$$ed off then?
They’re selling headsets they haven’t even made yet (demo’ing prototypes at shows) and controllers from the same company that they haven’t been able to source base stations from in 2 years… and people still got suckered and ponied up crazy money so I guess I see the target they met.
I can deliver solid news for those who somehow thought this time would be different. It is delayed. The delay is delayed. The announcement of the delayed delay is delayed.
I’m just waiting for my stuff from 2 years ago and not interested in buying anything else from them. Thought pimax day would be announcing it’s actually finally coming, to find out what is built is being taken off us and we have to buy it, they haven’t really begun on anything else they owe us but they’ll let us forfeit the lot and buy crazy priced hmds that don’t exist yet for no discount if we pay them now. Didn’t quite meet my internal target.
I am using strong words where I mean it, but I have no bone to pick with @SweViver or Kevin (@PimaxUSA). They are roped up in this mess with the backers as far as I can see. Ownership literally must own this and either make a good faith effort to make things right with us or suffer permanent harm to their company. Their reputation is in tatters and remaining intransigent will only cement this poison as
Pimax’s legacy. They can still turn this around. Backers will sink or swim the Pimax name.
Pimax managed to claw their way out of obscurity after the 4K with what has become a really good product. If they remain this toxic, they will end up right back where they started. You don’t think the next Index will be that much closer to the 8K range’s FOV? Just watch. At that point they lose technological leverage and have no reputation to carry them through. That’s not 5 years from now. I am guessing 1-2 years.
To Robin Weng- I hope you understand this isn’t going away. Do right for the backers and we will be your best advocates. @PimaxVR
Unfortunately for for them these posts write another chapter in their groundhogs day book. Wake up repeat. Do it again. They need to change the book not just the page or the chapter.
Though you are absolutely right about changing the book, it’s not insurmountable.
There’s a finite number of backers. This issue can be remedied. The peril of Groundhog’s Day was being doomed in eternity. If Pimax miscalculates here it won’t be eternity- it’ll be much worse. There will be a point where they can’t undo the bad optics. I am hopeful a productive discourse will happen- they can still turn this around.
It might be one of those “cultural differences” things. I think in the far east (Asia) countries they really hate/don’t want/can’t say “no”. Instead they will either keep silent or say something else. And perhaps apologise later.
While here in western culture we prefer straight answer be it good news or bad.
There is nothing wrong with delays, esp. with these new (yet unproven) products, we just want to be informed on any delays (or worst case cancellations) in timely manner. And giving us some realistic expectation, even if it is 6 months in future (instead of saying “next month” every month).
Now I am talking in general, 8kX/8k+ do not really have delay yet and the announced shipping dates can still be met (though I doubt it). On the other hand base stations were supposed to be shipping now and I don’t think it is happening.
This cultural difference has been discussed at length in the forum. It certainly looks like it but many people deny it too, usually calling it a racist thing to think even.
So you have to start your suspicions with ‘I’m not racist, but…’
