So I just solved this, shoutout to this guy @mytemplo and his thread: http://community.openmr.ai/t/yes-pimax-direct-and-extended-mode-is-ok-tutorial-on-pc-laps-and-not-laptop/794/2 , man you saved me soo much trouble, developers, you should take notes on what solved a problem for each person so you wouldn’t have to guess and ask every single person for their own problem. Make a solution megathread or something. This guy claims he has no idea around the computer yet he turned off the intel hd graphics service as apparently turning it off in bios didn’t turn it off. I owe you my time friend, thanks a lot! Also a big thank you to everyone in the comments trying to help me out. Support staff, make a solution thread and post what worked for people so newer people like me don’t have to search every single thread and see what works at random. Thank you again mytemplo.
Hi guys, I got my Pimax today after a few weeks of waiting. I installed the software and all that, unfortunately when I go into Pimax mode and then into steamVR, nothing happens. The audio from the headset is working fine but the 2 eye displays are black. I can see on my monitor that the headset is working properly as it registers head tracking but for some reason it just wont display anything on the headset monitors.
Things I have tried:
Disabling my integrated graphics card in BIOS
Disabling my internet/antivirus/firewall/defender and reinstalling PiPlay.
Googling and looking on the forums here.
Restarting my pc and messing with my cables.
Reinstalling my java installation.
Updating drivers.
Also for some reason Pimax keeps saying that my amd drivers are outdated which is not true at all.
The vr check also says I have a too low gpu classifying it as “AMD Radeon R9 200 Series” Which is true but its the Radeon R9 290, the one that the vr should work fine on. Currently I’m out of ideas and I really don’t want to re install Windows. Someone please help me resolve this so I can play games and watch 360 movies, otherwise I see no other option but to return the headset .
Also if you guys would be so kind to upload elsewhere than MEGA i’d be grateful, I can’t download older versions of piplay to test it out, maybe that would work, if someone could upload them to google drive I would be thankful.
I have tried it on for like 5-10 seconds, gonna try to put it on longer so I will see how that goes. Im running the latest piplay version. Now I downloaded some oculus libraries and it messed everything up the led light stays green and piplay wont detect it, I uninstalled it but the problem still occurs, hah, what a wonderful thing to be an early adopter of an unstable technology
Try a system restore prior to the Oculus run times were installed. Do you see anything when in video mode? Does Kodi start up when video mode is selected.
Were your Antivirus apps disabled when you installed piplay? Do you have the USB plugged into a hub or adapter? Is the hdmi plugged into the discrete GPU? And also when you switch to video mode can you see pimax as a separate monitor is display adapters?
I got it to work, but hmm there seems to be quite a few issues. I got it to work by selecting duplicate display. First of it went all wonky and rotated my screen then it showed the pimax logo, the main problem now is… When I finally got the pimax mode to work (or atleast I think I did) the steamVR is refusing to work… It shows me error 308 and I tried all the troubleshooting steps from the steam website. Not sure if this is a problem with the pimax or steam software, I’ll try to sort it out and let you know.
Kodi starts when in video mode. Antivirus was disabled, I have the usb plugged into the back of my PC, hdmi is plugged in discrete gpu. And the last question I put it on duplicate so I guess that solved it… Kinda.
Jesus christ now the god damned software is FORCING the vr headset into extended mode when I finally get it to work on pimax mode, are you kidding me guys? How do I force it not to force it…
Tried to put it into duplicated displays again, and oh boy is this a mess, first I got this in my lenses: https://goo.gl/1znJpa
Then I tried forcing them to 1920 1080 resolution and switched to pimax again and I just get this pimax screen loading infinitely in rotated display mode… Here: Pasteboard - Uploaded Image
I’m such a fool, paid approx 400 usd where gearbest and DHL ripped me off on customs and shipping and now I wasted an entire day trying to get this thing to work in pimax mode.
Gearbest everyone gets nab with a customs fee with dhl. In canada its an additinal $25.
Delete steamvrsettings file. This should fix the 90° rotated screen.
Please post the following
Cpu/ram
Gpu/driver version.
Windows Version
Piplay version
PiMax firmware version
Ah sorry just realized you posted most of that already. If you could post windows version
If comes down to it setup a skype with teamview with @PIMAX-Support. This is an awesome level of support where they can help get your system up & running with a hands on interactive approach.
I put the specs in the original post. Driver version is 17.7.2 gonna try the 17.8.2 and see how it goes. Windows 10. Latest 1.2.97 piplay. I dont know how or where to find the firmware version. I’ll go add them on skype and pray to god they can fix this. I feel so sad spending an entire day messing about with this. Thanks for your help. Whats their skype?
