Pimax logo burn in!

I noticed this morning that I have a lovely pimax logo burn in on my 8K.

Pimax, can you please make the default screen black and not a blaring white logo over black???

Look in your pimax directories for pitool you can swap out the default jpg.

Latest Pitool also has a screensaver option.

Is 8k somehow related with oled screens? From what I know it’s a LCD but it has different pixel arragment than usual LCD panels + has better contrast & blacks. How is it possible that LCD screen has a burn in?

Rebooted and logo is gone now.

Not literal burn-in, but LCD screens infamously suffer image retention, where bits of the liquid crystal layer do not properly return from their excited state, with aging, and after prolonged still imagery.

There are videos that flash colors, which supposedly can help ā€œunstickā€ the static patterns – I recall putting my DK1 through those on a number of occasions, but am not sure they helped any, or if that was just ye olde wishful thinking placebo effect. :7

You need to restart headset to take effect

Fair enough, sounds about right, haha.

Well LCD is potentially reversible where as oled is permnament.

I think I accidentally left my Artisan on overnight, and now I appear to have a line of ā€˜stuck’ (or brighter) pixels horizontally along the display. It almost looks like the SteamVR ā€œlines to infinityā€ thing. Any ideas on a fix? Just use the headset and wait for the pixels to sort themselves out? (And be really sure not to leave it on overnight?)

I usually unplug the power from the hmd when not in use. There might be a video that can be ran in a loop, but tbh haven’t myself tried any.

Do you have a pic? Is the line 1 solid color? Either way in theory if you haven’t turn off the screen saver in pitool it should have dimmed/blanked screens. Might be an idea as well to start a support ticket.

I’ve got the HMD and lighthouse on a power strip, but I’m an idiot and left it on overnight twice. I didn’t disable the Pimax screen saver but I did roll back to PiTool 254a, I’m not sure if that version has screen saver mode.

It looks like the effect might be lessening as I play games, and it’s sort of difficult to see statically. But there are several horizonal lines of pixels (like the SteamVR infinite space thing) and as I move my head up and down those pixels sort of ā€˜ripple’ past whatever’s in game. I’ll have a go taking a picture later tonight.

That line of pixels sounds like a hardware failure. However, leaving a unit continuously on for even a few days should not cause a problem like this, imo.

Alonzo I have old Pitool version before 253/254, and no screen saver. But I figured even before that inactive screens after 1-2 minutes are black, and become again alive after touching HMD.
No need to unplug it while inactive.
PS: pimax planet view is resource hog, change it with picture. And instead logo pic, you can put your pic, something like that: Girls Wearing SuperHeroes Shirts, HD Girls, 4k Wallpapers, Images, Backgrounds, Photos and Pictures

The screen blanker was a screen saver

So today, I can’t see the effect any more. I didn’t do anything, just played some games. Might have been a glitch, might have been something to do with leaving it on, I’m not sure. But it’s ok now, so all good.

Sorry about my ā€œit’s a problem… nope, it’s ok!ā€ posts – I’m getting to quite like the headset and am getting through my teething problems pretty well I’d say.

I have an LCD monitor which is starting to have image persistence problems. Certain areas (bottom left) are showing ghost images of the tool belt in my games for example. They do not have a colour but just show brighter than the rest. I tried the color changing patterns that are supposed to fix this kind of thing but honestly they don’t seem to work better than just leaving the screen off for a while. The burn in is temporary but it’s pretty reilable in showing up, and going away. Just my 2 cents since I have researched this issue and didn’t know what to think based on the answers I found. From my experience so far it’s probably going to get worse which would mean quicker to appear and the rate that it fades might be slower. Not sure yet but it isn’t even noticeable when I’m focused on a game.
