Pimax Crystal - status, updates and fixes (Part 2)

You mean between MRTV interviews, Reddit, Twitter, Discord, Youtube, the Pimax Forum and the Beta Test group? Lol

Umm Pretty much expect all information about their product that’s ‘official’ statements from PIMAX (like product specs etc) should come out of one place. Their website.
Then anyone can link that source on forums and other places.
So unless I missed it.
Anyways.

The AMA that was conducted on Discord is being organized and will be posted on other platforms; at a guess sometime this week. @PimaxQuorra do you have an approximate eta?

Well that is an easy one. Live discussions are typically easier on platforms like Discord.

Once the QnA info is organized… It will be published on other platforms.

But why live??? Pimax has been accumilating question in the run up to AMA and could of just answered them all in one statement, released on every platform. If this is how Pimax does things internally its no wonder they have so many delays. lol

As for the wide FoV lenses - are they going to be free? If not free how much will they cost? I doubt less than $100 a set.

When is the DMAS offer going to end?

Pimax are shipping Crystal with missing lenses. If they’re intending to sell Crystal on Amazon how are Amazon going to react when they have returns because of missing parts?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a product go on sale while the hardware is still in development.

Why not? Either can work of organized in a constructive manner.

Myself? I would have had a topic thread for folks to post Questions with maybe a pimax employee &/or a Community rep adding questions to a master single post. Have it run for a week. Close it on Friday abd post results on the following Friday.

Live Streams can work well but imho might have been better to do a Live Youtube presentation as has been done in the past.

However with more team members involved in the AMA Discord likely a better choice possibly due to language.

Lenses we will have to wait and see what happens. At a guess they might be both. Cost to buy/replace. As for what is included? Well anyone whom wants the 42ppd lenses pimax is obligated to supply them as it was clearly advertised. As for swapping the 42ppd lenses to include the wider FoV lenses? Pimax would need to contact each customer and give them a choice.

The Crystal not being KS means they can’t simply change things that were advertised with swapping or cancelling core features.

DMAS offer? At this point, they haven’t seem to be clear on expiry. But imho they should just make it standard as there upgraded will call it SMAS v2 while better than v1 has from what had read not given rave reviews on.

Supplying Amazon they could change what is included and could do so as well in the near future to have only 1 set of lenses included with others as optional purchases. Which seems likely imho to be an eventual change.

Well core hardware itself is not really in development. Just the software to run it. However with hardware revisions it can be said most hardware is in development with typically minor refreshes along the way.

Availability is really picking up it seems.

Alternate.de is selling the Crystal with immediate availability and have proper stock.

Would hate to be a pre-orderer waiting for my chance to receive it later with less warranty…

Seems even the main site orders are flowing well. So not likely many pre orders left dave those whom asked to delay payment. So it seems they are ramping things up a lot smoother than with past projects.

Perhaps the Pimax theme song is in order’ Let’s Rock

The optics is a core piece of hardware and one pair is missing and still in development. Sure it’s not stopping Crystal from functioning and it’s good people are enjoying their flight sims.

But when you look further down the line when the VR-1 has 125-128 FoV those extra lenses could be critical to Crystals saleability.

With BSB nipping at Crystals 103 range it’s going to be an interesting finish to 2023.

That‘s Pimax current safe space, as far as I experienced it: they‘ve got some community watch dogs censoring quickly if undesired information is shared.
So it‘s rather logical they only post it over there given the delay in completion of the product they „released“ 9 months ago. This way they surely feel they can control the fallout better.

I thought they announced the Crystal back around the summer of 2022, no?

Not on Discord no. @XabbuSwe & team only moderate things when there is a real need. They have had one of their team that needed correcting as was overstepping. But that has since been fixed up with no reoccuring issues with that particular mod.

Pimax has no more control on Discord than on r/pimax.

Yes unreleased as of yet but will ship when ready and does not prevent an owner from using the hmd. I think it is safe to say most folks will likely leave the 42ppd lenses in their case when received and wait for the wider 35ppd lenses to release; if pimax doesn’t give owners an option to receive the wider FoV lenses.

I think most ppl are more waiting for the SteamVR FP to release and be available fir purchase than anything else at this time.

Sure whenever Sonium gets they’re act in gear and actually release something. Providing they make no new hardware changes that further delays VR1’s release.

Indeed save the negatives that have been reported including the issues with pancake optics light transmission inefficiency and clarity drop off and other caveats.

That being said while the BSB has trade offs I am very interested in this hmd due to it’s formfactor… Some have complained about no ET. but in all honesty I don’t see why a 3rdparty couldn’t release one and use the magnetic mounts.

Announced yes. But claimed it released the first time end of Sept 22/Oct 22.

When only just actually released in an incomplete state as we know in May 2023.
