I’m thinking we can use this thread to add suggestions, tips, wishes and creative solutions to help Pimax prepare for CES. That will benefit everyone. There were some bad decisions and lack of important stuff at the previous shows so let us make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Suggestions can revolve anything related to the show such as:
“extra long usb cables glued to the controllers(!)”
“this foldable cart can help with transporting equipment and also act as a table/piano/whatever”
“prepare a dedicated steam account with these demos and games and don’t you dare launch Fruit Ninja again”
“this small sized stationary computer could be perfect for a show floor presentation”
“invite Tested and set up another date”
“make sure the computer you bring really supports DP 1.4”
“show Virtual Desktop”
“hook the 5k to a laptop and bring it too”
“don’t use backer money in the slot machines”
“bring sturdy tripods for the sensors that do not sway as they did in that video with SweViver”
Get a decent camera and get someone who can operate it at the event. This is the best opportunity for Pimax to actually get some publicity and reactions from the public.
I’ve always thought It would be great if any talented graphic designers on the forum could help come up with better slogans and poster graphics for the 8K
If the English is even slightly wrong it can make the product look cheap
Some nice graphics of the 8K with a cool slogan would help to smash the competition!
Pimax wants to use CES as an deciding factor on whether they are on the right track but are they also inviting critics to the booth or just passer-by’s?
They still need to have some after session invitations going out to interested attendee’s/enthusiasts.
Hide nothing, show all. (Reluctance usually indicates deceit/lack of confidence).
Tell all, good, and even the bad because that’s what “transparency” means.
Totally agreed, it makes Pimax look like scam artists, because most people will say it’s not 8k (although technically one could argue it is of course). Just read forums like roadtovr, whenever Pimax is mentioned they will say that it’s not really 8k and Pimax are scammers for calling it 8k.
Fact is, most people will be turned off by it. I would focus on 200 FoV and mention 2x4k resolution so not to give people the impression you’re cheating.
True. I design and build trade booths and most of it would be locked down and shipped unless they are having the graphics made localy by a contractor. Tips on how to run the stand would be helpfull. Personally I think they should be sending somone like heliosurge to assist and learn the product in prep for launch
I think some of the biggest things to push is GET BIG NAME INFLUENCERS AND MAKE SURE THEIR INFO IS CORRECT! This means:
Getting in contact with them ASAP because I’m sure many of them have already booked most of their time at the event
Ensure you give them a list of information that they can use to make informed opinions of the device (the Linus Tech Tips video hurt me)
Make sure you have good translators at the event or have a team of native english speakers that you have brought up to speed on all the features and development and can answer any questions.
I am also a realist. We have no idea why Pimax is at CES. Their success or failure of CES has no bearing on the kickstarter backers other than to gauge how close they are to delivering.
For all I know they could be there to secure their next round of funding and have no real concern about the delivery date or quality of the headsets. Their lack of updates and the way they quietly secured their Series A funding is a concerning.
Like most of you I am excited to see what they show at CES, but realize that what happens there in no way makes the delivery or the quality of the promised kickstarter any closer to reality.
