Pimax 8kx and msi ventus 3090

HeyPimax peeps, I’m having a little trouble configuring the 3090 and the 8KX. I don’t seem to be getting the performance I think I should; I think it’s an issue with Settings in steam tools or in the steam. I’ve been reading through the forms I don’t really understand what I’m reading if anybody has any settings for the 8KX and the 3090 running off an I9 processor with 32gigs of RAM and has some insight into that I’d sure appreciate advice!
CheerspsEver since I updated my iPhone to the latest iOS it’s been a nightmare trying to use the web and editing text so I apologize for typos and any lack of clarity that is less clarity even than usual for me!

What game?
What performance do you expect and what do you got now?

Aces high low res game 1980x1080. With all the graphics settings set a maximum I would think on a game of this vintage with this low resolution I would get 60 to 75 frames per second. But with everything maxed out in the game I was getting 35 frames per second. I had to dial back detail quite a bit in order to get 74 frames per second. Then in aisle two I couldn’t get the game to work; so I don’t know yet what the frame rate will be. I am also seeing some new distortion and blurriness at the right side of the right lens that didn’t used to be there. I think that’s more about adjusting things in pitools more than steam though. I’m thinking IPD offset and vertical offset probably both need some tweaking.
I don’t know how to check frame rate in DCS, but it looks smoother a lot smoother. I haven’t messed much with the settings so I’m going to see if I can get it looked better too.
Cheers

fpsVR is the best app to check fps and gpu usage.
or you can use msi afterburner + riva tuner for On Screen statistic. You will see your fps, gpu usage etc on your screen. (it’s easy setup and at least with this I can help you)

I don’t know aces high but maybe it’s something with pitool/steamVR.

Do you have the newest 1.0.2.086 pitool?
Do you have smart smoothing off?
Do you have parallel projection off?
In steamVR, are you using custom resolution? What is your output resolution in steamVR for aces high?
Do you have any other game to compare performance?

@NextGenVR might have some ideas.

  • Do you have the latest Nvidia driver installed from GeForce Experience?
  • Which I9 CPU do you have?
  • what speed is your RAM clocked at?
  • Have you tried the beta version of SteamVR?
  • Did you set maxRecommendedResolution in Steam config file?
  • Do you have all latest windows updates installed?
  • Do you have any programs running in the background while playing? Your 8KX could be running without you knowing, check if the front logo is illuminated.

I would suggest trying out the nvidia 456.55 driver, I read somewhere that there was issues with the later ones, up to 457.30 atm if i recall, and my subjective “i think i felt something in my right pinky” is that the older driver gave a little more headroom. It costs nothing to try.

Is the SteamVR beta supposed to work better with Pimax nowadays?

I got off the beta some year ago because I had some issue I don’t remember now…

Thanks Guys,
I’m working on all your suggestions.
I have the latest Pitool, and the latest Nvidia driver.
I did adjust my ‘per eye’ resolution in Steam. Steam had set it to a very very high setting, so I adjusted it down to about 3700/2200 to get it more in line with the actual resolution of each lens.
That seems to have helped a lot.
I do think I need to find a way to completely uninstall Pitools and start over though; it doesn’t seem to want to start most of my imported games. I have to start IL2 and Aces High as well as DCS world from their desktop icons with Pitools running in the background. Otherwise either nothing happens, or the games end up hidden behind the steam VR lobby screen, which I cannot minimize because I have no hand controllers. I just use the mouse and my HOTAS setup in flight sims.
Cheers
