Is this true, Pimax? Are you defiantly using the new 2.0 base stations?
If so, that means you have a pretty neat tracking area advantage over the Vive, which should be even more great news for people buying the complete package!
Also, reading the article, seems like Valve are maybe manufacturing these base stations and then selling them to hardware companies to use?
We are ramping up production of base stations for OEMs. We’ve sent an email with a request for information to the address you registered when you signed the SteamVR Tracking license. If you have not received that email, please contact us at vrlicensing@valvesoftware.com. We are asking that you inform us of your demand for SteamVR Tracking 2.0 base stations by month for 2018. Please keep the following notes in mind:
• Unless you are working on a HMD that is based on the TS4231 sensors, you probably won’t get any benefit out of these new base stations right now. These units will not work with existing HTC Vives.
• Base stations are ordered as individual units (if you want a pair of base stations, you need to request 2)
• Each unit includes the base station, power supply, country specific power supply adapter and documentation
• Base stations will be delivered in bulk packaging for inclusion in your VR kit: You will need to repackage them in your own packaging for sale.
• Units will not include any mounting solution. Valve is creating a custom wall/ceiling mounting solution. We will provide more information about this later in 2018.
• This form is not a purchase agreement. We are using these estimates to scale our production. In the future we will provide a purchase agreement and more information about what you can expect for deliveries.
Base stations will start shipping in early 2018 but we expect demand to initially outstrip supply so quantities may initially be limited.
If this is true, and Valve are selling their base stations to Pimax, then having them shipping in early 2018, then that seems a bit worrying with the the timescales Pimax has put out for shipping units…
