That is basically what Sweviver said in his video - around the 2:13.00 . Because his video is so long it’s easy to miss some of these details he mentioned. This is quite important because it seems then that with adequate SS the 8K can match the sharpness of the 5K+ and with some people getting a 2080 or 2080 Ti then it’s possible to get the same sharpness of the 5K+ and benefit from the reduced SDE. That then would certainly make the 8K a better option than the 5K+ for sure.

That’s very useful information. I think I’ll stick with the 8K. I preordered a 2080 Ti just now hoping it is a good step. Even if it only means I can come close tothe 5K quality I got less SDE. I really hate SDE.

The only downer is how much FPS will you get at 1.75 SS.

I think 1.75SS is not achivable. I’d be happy if I can come somewhat close to the 5K sharpness.

Voodoo also tested the 8k with uber killing SS and the image clarity “pratically” matched the 5k+.

Or you could use that 2080ti and 1.75 quality to super-sample the 5K+ image. Chances it will be as nice or even nicer than the 8k.
I’m leaning towards the 5k+. Yes, it may have slightly higher SDE than the 8k, but it’s an horizontal/vertical SDE, which I think does a lot to provide the feeling of clarity. I think the 8k and its upscaler are a clumsy solution. Better wait for the 8K-X.
Actually, scratch that. The 8k is obviously the real deal. Please all stay on 8k, that will make my 5k+ arrive faster.

hehe, dont sweat it, plenty of people will stick with 8k. i personaly cant stand SDE, vertical/horizontal SDE is somehow even worse. i can supersample away the upscaler blurryness, but SDE is permanent.

We had that with the Vive. You cannot super sample the SDE away. You can make the display more readable but from the information I got the Pimax 8K and 5K+ are sharp enough to be able to read text.
Super sampling will never get the 5k+ SDE being on par with th 8K. You might have to throw ridiculous processing amounts at the 8K to be as sharp as the 5K+ but the SDE will be better allways simply because of the display used.

I didn’t mean to make the SDE go away, simply add antialiasing to the scene.

Yeah this was very useful to make the vive text readable. It might be useful on the 5K+ and 8k too but I think not to that extent.

I’ve watched it and he says 1.5 and even that he says is just an estimation. 1.75 is even worse so let’s say it’s 1.5.
On this basis even if you have a 2080Ti you’re still better off getting the 5K+ because if you have the power to do 1.5SS you would just apply Taht to the 5K+ instead and the image quality of the 5K+ would get even better.
Teh crucial thing here is that at the same level of SS the quality of the 5K+ beats the quality of the 8K.
So either you have blurry 8K with slightly better SDE Vs good quality 5K+ at 1.0ss
Or you have good quality 8K with slightly better SDE Vs excellent quality 5K+ at 1.5ss
Either way you’re trading quality of image with slightly better SDE.
And from what I can see even a 2080Ti (which at best is only 47% faster than a 1080Ti) won’t be able to manage 80+FPS plus 1.5ss plus large FOV the the vast majority of games because SweViver could only get a couple of games to run like that on the 5K+ with 1.0ss
It’s looking like we will have to wait until Nvidiad 7nm to be released before we even begin to have GPUs powerful enough.

2hours :45 mins is a long slog to pay attention when someone is constantly talking and the brain kind of switches off or misses details. Another point Sweviver raises at 2:15:00 in his video with Alien Isolation and says the 8K looks just as sharp as the 5K+.
I think it’s becoming more settled for me. 8K all the way.

Yes even some of the stills from 1hr17mins onwards show that 8K is sharper but teh overwhelming majority shows the 5K+ to be far superior. This is why SweViver says that you need Pitools to be on setting 1.5 to get the same quality and clarity on the 8 as you do with 1.0 on the 5+

He said the stills are not a good representation of what he can see in real life. I agree most of those images show the 5K+ to look better,

Good details, I am listing the review, but still not end.
May we wait to get the detail of fps too, no meaning if it has same sharpness, but can’t play the game.

I watched the whole video, i though he said 1.5 in Pi tool and 40-50% in steam VR?
Also FPS would increase if you set it to normal FOV mode (also remove most of the distortion)

True, but he also goes onto say you need to have 1.5x more SS to get teh same clarity and quality as the 5K+, and he didn’t qualify that by saying “only for still pictures” but he was talking about what it looks like whilst playing them. I think this clearly suggests 5K+ looks sharper in game. The stills may not be a great representation but they seem to marry up with everything else.
