I for one am really happy with the most recent update tbh.
It’s the first time I have read Pimax expressing that they are ‘now we are very confident about M1’ and I’m looking forward to hearing what the beta testers have to say about M1.
Calculating based on a production capacity of 200 units/month and assuming M1 passes beta testing with flying colours and assuming shipping is based on backing order, that would mean a delivery around December 2018/January 2019 for me as backer #1.519. I’d be perfectly happy with that and it’s in line with what I had been expecting.
Great work @deletedpimaxrep1 and the team, let’s get this show on the road!
Indeed, I also had a big smile on my face when I just read it - I am so so curious to learn the reviewers’ thoughts once they have them. But okay, before we actually will hear anything, it will likely take another month: shipping starts say end of May, add 1 week for shipping, so the beta testers start their job in the second week of June, so give them at least 1-2 weeks of closed beta, that means end of the 3rd week of June we could be reading their findings. Will be awful to wait, but hey, what can we do…
They might and it’s just a random number I remember having read somewhere around here.
Do remember it’s not just about building the units though, there has to be per unit distortion correction as well as a thorough QA process to avoid RMAs.
At 200 a month they’d be building them in a shed or something. I am expecting them to ship the backer units in amatter of 3 months easily.
If they pull it off and the HMD is worth using they will need to be able to produce thousands of units a month considering there is nothing on the market other than the vive PRO wich is simply not worth the money.
I just dont understand the massive delay on the light houses? Its going to ruin the launch. VIVE has them already. They said they would ship them back in Feburary
Yes, Xunshu mentioned a month ago that
“When we move to mass production, we start with a smaller number e.g. 100, 200 and then produce more, e.g. 500 per week.”
So it will not be that bad…
I get the impression that lighthouse 2.0 availability is pretty bad in general right now. HTC have stopped offering 1.0 altogether yet at least their German storefront doesn’t offer 2.0 standalone units yet.
I’m still not clear if Pimax licensed SteamVR2.0 tracking from Valve or if Valve is producting the 2.0 units themselves and then selling them to HTC/Pimax etc. If it’s the latter, it might all be down to Valve’s production capacity and logistical acumen.
@deletedpimaxrep1, have Western people tried the M1? I say it in case they see it differently, although I think that should not matter. The “new hardware estructure” was for >80Hz?
I also have my doubts about acessories from strech goals, they saying that they working with patners but nothing specific…
Aditional solid headstrap leaning on forehead is super needed (dont care about audio headphones as i have my highends) and based what I read is still in design /prototyping process.
I’m happy that they are super confident but rest of the updates is only generalitiest.
Manufacturing of most products tends to ramp up from a small amount to full capacity, as confidence in the product and the manufacturing processes grows with each batch. So you may only start with a small batch of say 50 and then if those are OK go to 100-200 and then upwards as each batch passes QC and market reactions (i.e. minimal returns). You also tend to refine the processes using something like LEAN to optimise your supply chain.
I’m lucky (not risk averse) and should be on the first batch run, so I’d better get cracking with the rest of my cockpit project
Hi xunshu thanks for the update. I can’t wait to see what 200 degree field of view actually looks like. I remember when I first put the rift on and I was in the grey grid room but thought it was awesome.
@deletedpimaxrep1
I like they way of providing the update by email to backers only. On one side you really got the message out to all the backers and on the other side the many nay sayers that aren’t backers here in the forum are left out in the cold. They can only guess what they now have to down vote on
You will ask if the backers will want the headset now with 80 HZ or they may have the option of waiting for the 8K to reach 90 Hz?. I’ll want mine with 80 Hz.
