Pimax 5k+ framedrops/stutter regardless of settings and version. About to give up

Using 1 lighthouse. Ive never had any issues with jitter or tracking trouble when using it but it does look a bit jittery on the video. My Odyssey was the same way when sitting on the desk, not quite as bad but the same micro movements and never had any fps drops on it. Its just the 2 fps random drop you can see on FPS VR and i notice it in as a slight stutter

Well it was Pitool all along, with the latest .255 version its fixed!

Try doing a comparison with AC like you made the last video to see performance difference.

@MrAhlefeld Its rock stable and i havent had any issues with it dropping trough 2 laps of the Green hell. Same in Iracing, no issues whatsoever. Suppose i can do it for people that would like to see though.

Here’s a short side by side video for those interested All previous pitool VS pitool .255 2 fps stutter/drop. Finally fixed! - YouTube

I have tried so many options and like all the options in pitools. Jesus loves you !

It is still there for me even with the latest Pitool. It’s something I’ve just had to ignore.

I could email you the attachment if you give me yours.

255 worked better than 258. People mention memory leak or something in 258. If i restart my computer i can drive Sebring on Iracing (258) with stable 90 fps but it gets worse after a while. Cant 100% say if its Pitool or something else as i havent gone back and forth and tested but im guessing pitool

Was happening in 255, every version I have ever tried. Fps never stays at 90 and there is that jittering you get in your video of things flickering back and forth.

255 is a mess compared to 253. The video shows as well, look at the GPU utilization and average frames.

It’s generating much worse performance because the GPU utilization is so low.

Thanks so you’d advise I stick with 253 for now?

Yes definitely PiTool 253. Pros and Cons:

(+) It’s close to 254’s top performance (GPU utilization >90%), better than 258 (GPU utilization <70%)
(+) Does not have 254’s memory leak that disconnects the HMD after 30min - 60min
(+) Can still use 120Hz/144Hz with the latest Firmware

(-) Old UI
(-) Short judder every other minute for a frame

The video shows 255 has around 15% less gpu usage and on average 2ms less frame time than previous pitool so I’m not sure what you are talking about. Also the average frames means nothing unless you have been in the game for some time as it could just have some hickups and you won’t actually see the true number for 5-10 minutes sometimes. You can clearly see it moving up. So more efficient then. But the general consensus is that 255 has worse performance overall but I’d rather take that over my constant stutter every 3-8 secs.

Sorry to hear you are getting nowhere though @Malcolm I’m assuming you have the same issue at 72hz and no matter what supersampling you still get the drops.?

I’m talking about less GPU utilization and 15-20fps less on average. I tested that under equal circumstances with disabled motion smoothing and a recorded track in IL-2 in 144Hz mode, so the upper end was open too.

If I go back to 253 what about the firmware? The firmware is updated to 255. Is it fine to use an older driver on newer firmware?

The older firmware should work fine with the older pitool based on others reports.

Isn’t driver version 253 older than the firmware 255? Is there a newer firmware than 255, you said 255 was older?

Yes but there are some using newer firmwares with older pitool versions

Ah, sorry I read you wrong. Thanks
