Pimax 4k setup problem: everloading screen

When I connect my device, I can see a loading screen (sort of night sky with stars and PIMAX logo), there is also a pop up in the right lower corner saying that the device is connected. The centre is of the screen is a small blue circulating circle (loading sign of windows 10), then nothing happens. When I try to switch to main screen with alt-tab or the window button, I can only see a part (left lower) of the screen.

Config:
Windows10
Intel i7 cpu
Nvidia GTX 1060, 6G vram
Latest NVidia graphic driver
Pimax software 1.2.91

(Another silly question: my card have only one HDMI port, but I see people on YouTube showing picture on their monitor and at the same time using the headset, how do they do that? )

Hi Aravon, welcome to the forums

the piplay drivers have 2 modes… there is Pimax Mode and Video Mode

  1. after the device is detected and the blue light is on the top of the headset, you can choose the mode that you need.

Pimax Mode is for gaming and for steamvr or oculus home games you use that mode
Video mode allows you to watch movies in your headset. basically it makes your pimax another screen… the video mode will also load Kodi media player in vr format and you can watch your movies through that, there are other media players on the stores if you dont want to use Kodi.

  1. to play games from steam, you need to make sure you have steamvr installed and you have run room setup.

  2. once that is done click on steamvr so the pimax can be detected by steamvr and then once it has been done, you can launch any vr game in your library. the same can be said fro the oculus home

finally, your question on having the screen on the desktop and on the hmd… assuming you are talking about the pimax in pimax mode? as in a game, by default it will display on both once the game starts… if you are into recording, you can record the screen version of the game while you are playing, there are many apps out their for recording and some good video recording softwares as well… but basically, use the pimax mode and start a game… it will show in the headset and on the screen (assuming you have a screen plugged into the graphics card of course

Hi Aravon,

As Eno said welcome to the forums.

Plug PiMax hmd into hdmi port. Your monitor/TV will need to be plugged into a DVI or Display port.

For display port you can buy a dp2hdmi adapter.

Thank you for the reply. But none of the problem is solved.

  1. Is it a MUST that I have to connect BOTH the headset and the monitor to my computer?

(My video card has only one HDMI port which has been used by the monitor, so I have to unplug the monitor and plug in the headset and try to set things through the headset. That means I CANNOT see anything through the monitor but only through the headset after it has been connected).

If the answer is yes then I will buy another cable. If the answer is no, please advice what other things I can do.

  1. I can enter video mode, Kodi start up automatically. But when I turn my head, the focus is always at the center, is it normal? I suspect the head tracking is not working, how can I check ?

  2. I cannot enter PIMAX mode at all. I can barely switch to Pi Play (mind you, all is done through the keyhole vision through the headset) and use the dropdown menu to select PIMAX mode, but after that the whole screen turned GREY!

Yes you do need both monitor & headset plugged in.

You will need to buy either a dp 2 hdmi (if monitor doesn’t have dp) or dvi 2 hdmi adapter.

In video mode headset appears as a display. In PiMax mode aka direct mode tge headset us not visible in display properties.

Ok, I will buy an adaptor and see the result. Hope it works.

Hi Aravon,

Before buying that adapter, have a look on the back on your monitor… what connection ports does it have. as that will determine what cable or adapter you buy. very few monitors ONLY have HDMI, some have VGA or DVI or Display Port.

what you have to remember is that the Pimax NEEDS to use that HDMI, but the monitor can use any of the other types of connections that it has… so check the monitor 1st

Thank you. I finally got it working with my monitor connected too.
Now I can run PIMAX mode ok with steam VR and play VR games . I also got virtual desktop from steam , it also works .

But I don’t like the Kodi software which start up automatically when switching to Video mode. It is just not user friendly .

Can I use another start up software for Video mode? Preferably a software can show and use my desktop , or a usable web browse .

Hi Aravon,

You can choose any VR player you want. Kodi is just the default one that Pimax devs have loaded into the Piplay drivers so we have something to play VR Movies/Videos on.
