I have been reading the forum for sometime. Aside from the blurry lens center most of the other problems look either subjective or being corrected with new firmware. Looks like still so many thing need to be done in terms of drivers for compatibility and easy setup but I hope pimax team is working on it…
Anyway my question to Pimax team: Did you contact Gearbest about lens issue. Looks like this is about 2 different lens and holders but if I order now a Pimax 4K do I have to expect similar problem. And if so how fast will you ship the other lenses and holders till I apply the fix on my own.
For future sales this is an important issue. Hope you can clarify this by giving more info for people who want to buy this product but afraid of especially blurry lenses.
My Pimax was faulty right out of the box. Could not see anything except the tutorial, wouldn’t be regognized in my multiple dispay pop up, and no matter what I did, the unit would not work at all at times. Most often wouldn’t even turn on.
After repeated attempts to get some resolve, it was obvious it had to be sent back.
But before I did, I too had the feeling of needed attention to the blurriness. I found that if you use reading glasses, go to the dollar store, and get a pair that matches the numbers for your prescription glasses. Get two pair so that you’ll have lenses to match each eye as far as strength.
Get the largest, similar to aviator type or as large so that the lens will cover the entire Pimax lenses. You can affix them via using a double side tape to hold the lenses. Put a thin piece on top sides and bottom of the circular plastic lens housing, and carefully place the lens over the Pimax lens and press gently so that it adheres to the plastic lens housing.
Note, be sure to place the lens from your glasses in reverse order so that the concave sides do not touch.
Example (( is correct, both lens will fit without touching each other. If you try to install like )( then as you can see the surfaces would contact each over.
Worked perfect as everything was clear and sharp.
Only wish the damn thing worked. Just couldn’t watch any VR content, or youtube 360 videos, nothing.
In my opinion, no product should be released for sale until the unit can be plugged in after downloading the software and works right out of the box without a lot of questions and answers as to how to get it up and running.
I tried the oculus at Best Buy, and if it were not for it having 2k resolution, I’d have snapped it up.
I bought the Pimax because of the higher resolution and that it’s compatible with my Gforce 960 as advertised.
I hope if they send me a replacement, it’s one with most of the bugs eliminated.
@PngVR,
The mixed mismatched lens and holder issue in the factory has been solved completely, since we quarantined and then discarded all the older lens’ holder. so don’t worry, no older stock in Gearbest, and we shipped a new batch product to them.
So i think you can get the right one from Gearbest from now.
For those who already got the mismatched headset, we will provide a replacement lens holder module.
Robbin, thanks for the offer, and appreciate the consideration. I had to send my unit back as it wouldn’t fire up at all.
Took it to a Best Buy who sells Oculus by the way, and asked if I could see if the unit would turn on. Nothing. So, I gave it my best shot at home and even took it to Best Buy to see if it would work plugging it into one of their PC’s.
However, I hoping that if Pimax wants to send a replacement whereas they’ve fixed a couple issues, that would be great.
At that time, if the lens issue is still a problem, then offering the new lens option would be great as well.
I figured an easy way to overcome the problem as I posted previously. Works like a charm. Now all I need is a Pimax that works.
Thanks for responding.
warmest regards,
Rich
