Ubuntu was a fork off of Debian and like many grown into it’s own path with many based now off Ubuntu based. Unlike Ubuntu flavors. As far as I know Ubuntu doesn’t respin debian releases anymore. It has long ago become it’s own. Much like Android no longer runs Linux kernels as it has forked one as it’s own and now official android uses it’s own.
Linux is well known for it’s update model being fairly stable. With many companies that haven’t rebooted servers in years.
the alternate eye rendering being abandoned as a feature is certainly disappointing. there are two GTA V vr mod’s out right now that use this technique for vive headsets and people are really happy with it. the same mods do not work on pimax, as the developers do not have the hardware to test.
the two mods for reference:
Pimax’s described method is not the same as it requires running the display panels out of sync. But I do suspect pimax maybe quietly is abandoning this idea as they have been bumping panel refreshes.
Looks like OpenXR is about to get a MAJOR push into the limelight
wouldn’t that be neat if we could hit 288hz equivalent with alternate eye rendering with two 144hz panels out of sync by half a phase
Valve is moving in SteamVR to OpenXR
