Wasn’t trying to compare the two, merely providing my impressions of this specific device which I thought was quite good and spent time with it. I’m sure people will compare them at some point this year.
Kevin I know it has been a couple of years. But how does the new Xtal compare in terms of weight and comfort? Any new features? Imagine they also resolved issues they had with there first 8k model.
You should write that ‘if’ in capitals They might make it, but might also very well not. Either way, spending 10k+ on a headset is crazy, even in my book I’ve bought expensive headsets like StarVR and VR3 but even those together don’t make it to that 10k mark. If it was absolutely perfect in every way I might even consider, but the weight alone makes me think twice. Also ‘absolutely perfect’ would mean StarVR FoV. I still mis that!! Of all headset I’ve owned so far StarVR was the most amazing one, because that experience of not seeing any borders anymore just felt so liberating!! Too bad the resolution was just way too low to make it usable as a daily driver.
It is lighter, Im tthinking by 200 grams?? Its a little smaller as well. XTAL asked their users what they didnt like about the 2 model and made some of those changes. Cant remember right off the top of my head the other changes though.
Weight improvements would be key. Imagine may have shrunk the hmd a bit perhaps.
@Heliosurge have you seen this?
there a two versions, mixed for $11.500
XTAL 3 - Mixed Reality | Vrgineers
and VR $8.900
XTAL 3 - Virtual Reality | Vrgineers
Its definitely lighter and more comfortable than their previous version. The first version had considerable 3d convergence issues for me when I tried it but that is clearly resolved in this one.
The only technical drawback I noticed was the vertical fov which is noticeable in that you can easily see significant areas of black bar above and below the image. Horizontally it’s really good but it does have the Kylo Ren affect going.
Thanks Dstar will take a look
Thank you @PimaxUSA that is good to hear. I do wonder why there vertical FoV seems to suffer. However it might be due to simulate wearing a helmet maybe?
Hmmm damn, I’m actually getting interested now in this headset.
Also just found this review, it’s Heaney but couldn’t find any review and was happy to even read one:
I actually talked to him with a pleasant conversation for about an hour. It’s interesting the difference in a real face to face conversation vs. internet conversation where the worst possible stuff can come out. Face to face totally pleasant and cordial.
Indeed we find that often with a variety of ppl. In person is always best.
It is nice though to see a Heaney article that doesn’t seem Oculus Lopsided.
I was thinking the same thing regarding the FOV, helmet simulation. The 5K FOV reminds me of the Vive Pro 2 vertical FOV, although the Pro 2 has even less. The Pro 2 and XTAL lenses look very similar.
Whoops… just couldn’t resist Probably the dumbest spent money in my life but oh well, too addicted to VR
Now I’m hoping it’s just as good as @PimaxUSA says it is
Uuum I feel your pain, LOL. The XTAL guys are a real pleasure to work with. I had to pay around $40 in duties but they didnt charge me tax. Cheers and let us know all the juicy details on that bad boy!!
Sure will let you know. Already I’m sure it’s price/performance ratio is going to be horrible, I mean it’s nowhere going to be 6x better than a 8k-X of that I’m sure But I’m really interested to find out how good this thing really is. Probably should have gone to CES to demo it first, but oh well, that ship has sailed. Too bad they’re sending these out as of April and not earlier …
Absolutely, its for the VR guy who like to drive a Bentley or Aston Martin, figuratively speaking …
Wow you did it,Great!
You also still have the varjo aero coming?
Cant wait too see your impressions of the xtal headset!
Looking good!
Hopefully Pimax won’t get inspired from that regarding how much people are possibly willing to spend for VR headsets
will the 12k qled have the same fov as the star vr one ?
more
have you seen the vid not?
