New Pimax 8K video

Where did $2,000 come from? My phone can shoot in 4k and at 120fps and it cost me a fraction of that. I’m sure there’s cheaper, too.

There’s a happy medium between being obnoxiously demanding and defending every action with zealotry. If Pimax don’t have the gear to record meaningful videos I’d rather they didn’t put video like this out at all; it’s clearly just caused bickering - and not just on this forum.

The nonsense that they have to spend every second “working on the HMD” is really grating, too. Not only will they have a large number of panels available, they also have marketing and PR staff who aren’t head down in engineering every day. Beyond that having worked in many tech companies, both hardware and software, the guys on the ground are always passionate enough in their project to take a small amount of time out after work to help non-techies show it off.

I get that this is effectively a back-slapping echo chamber and everyone’s as excited for the end product, but take some time apply logic and reason to posts else we’ll just end up with polarised slanging matches.

What phone you using? My lg g4 can only shoot vid 4k@30fps

Respectfully, that’s not true. SDE is caused by large black edges around the pixels. That’s different from being able to discern the actual pixels. Because the zoomed image clearly shows the individual pixels, we can see that the pixels are very close to their neighbors, with no black borders. It doesn’t matter what resolution the video uses, if we can see the individual pixels, we can see the pixel edges too. In this case, there are no apparent black borders, so there is no appreciable SDE.

No not really, I’m not looking for SDE when immersed in virtual reality. I’m not planning to use my headset for things like virtual desktop or bigscreen, because frankly I’d rather just watch a movie or do work on a normal monitor/TV. I guess I don’t know why I responded because I am not too concerned about SDE, as I don’t even notice it on my VIVE unless I really try.

Yeah you’re probably right, I guess I don’t know enough about optics to make an educated response to this statement. So I’ll just agree that I’m probably wrong lol.

I myself am not looking for SDE and have always believed that it does not bother me at all. But that was all until I bought the Oculus CV 1 after PiMAX 4K.
In Rift I almost did not notice SDE, except for racing games.
On the horizon, everything was pouring into these horrible squares, the grid, the SDE. Specificity of auto-simulators is such that a lot has to look at the horizon. And here SDE appears in full glory and begins to excruciate the eyes.

A visual comparison of SDE Oculus СV1 and PiMAX 4K through lens [No blue filter in 4К]:

Oculus СV1 and PiMAX 8K

Actually, SDE interferes with immersion in any case. It’s hard not to pay attention to it especially in specific games.
Even if you do not want to see, it finds you at some moments

Therefore, all the hopes are only for 8K. There is every reason to believe that this will be the best HMD in the world according to its specifications :+1:

Well said, I was going to reply to him but you already said it all.

Thanks

You cant resolve that much more actual detail then you can on a Gear VR say, but you need to squint and zoom in frame by frame to see SDE in those videos. If its like that over all 200 degrees, then this is very impressive. I would love to see a video like this done with a 4k camera. @deletedpimaxrep1

Really looking forward to trying out some 3d blu ray movies on the 8k!

Thanks for videos, but we need comparison P4K/Oculus versus P8K on the same videos. Or just provide links to this videos. As I said in another threads where I requested this, I’m interesting about it not because of sde or video quality, but geometric correctness. I want to play this videos on P4K/Oculus and see that it play there the same as on 8K. Then I’ll satisfy.

@Cyrus_Blak are you Pimax staff? Or how you made this videos do you have prototype?
