I just unpacked and installed my new 5K+. Unfortunately I ran in a problem I did not expect since the 4K was working perfectly there:
The 5K+'s internal gyroscope doens’t work properly, and therefore, 3dof-tracking doesn’t either.
I don’t any base station so far, which is the reason why I backed the complete package including base stations and controllers. But I assumed the 5K+/8K to work at the same 3dof-level the 4K did.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t…
Playing any game therefore is impossible.
Did anyone encounter the same problem with the internal gyroscope and 3dof?
Or did I get a bad HMD…?
Did you maybe forget turn off the “Lighthouse tracking” option in PiTool?
Last time I tried both headsets (final units) without base stations it worked good. I will try it again during this week. Maybe do a separate video about this as well…
@jankes
Well, then, I should have had problems with the old 4K as well…
Concerning the magnetic calibration, I didn’t find any option for that - except you mean the point “horizontal calibration” under “HMD” => yes, this one, I did it. Right from the start and twice afterwards, no change.
@evertec
Not easy to explain: In 90% of the cases, when I move my head, the front-faced image moves with me, so no tracking at all. In the other 10 or whatsoever %, there first is a deadzone of 10-20°, then it tracks for a second, maximum two seconds - then, the front-faced image switches and moves in sight again, nonregarding to which direction I really look.
Only in Project Cars 1, there was a moment, where the image got “frozen” to one side after some head movement, but from this moment on, only second-short trackings, then the side image always came back.
Hope, you get what I mean
@SweViver:
Yes, of course. It was the first thing I switched off after launching PiTool - since I have no Lighthouse at all so far.
I also tried twice to turn it on and off again - no change.
I first will have a look this evening or tomorrow at doing a complete and clean re-install of the drivers. Seems as if a couple of users had problems due to not completely uninstalled, remaining PiTool files and the like.
Second, I have a universal power supply I will set to the correct voltage and try it with this one, if it still doesn’t work. I also have a lot of problems with disconnects once to three times per minute, which is very annoying, too. Might be this is related to bad driver install, too, might be it is due a bad power bank…
Last but not least, I’ve read that there might be some NVidia drivers out there which may cause problems, especially with tracking. I’ve installed the latest ones from 12th December.
So if ever someone knows a NVidia driver version which works for sure, I’d appreciate to get a hint
If all this fails, I will contact your support. Which would be the case somewhen tomorrow as soon as I’ve checked everything described
If you use the SteamVR 2.0 Base Stations, you’re supposed to UNCHECK the “lighthouse tracking” option??? I always had it on. Maybe that’s why I’ve seen drifting at time?
Yes I do. I put up a 3rd one yesterday and will have a 4th one after they RMA one, but I doubt i’ll put up the 4th.
I misread what Sweviver wrote above. He was speaking to the individual who originally posted this and he is trying to use his Pimax without base stations.
This is a stale thread, I guess, but just wanted to add that my 3DOF doesn’t work either. In my case, i get constant drift of the image in a clockwise rotation. Two compasses show there aren’t any additional magnetic fields in the area. A remote call with tech support seemed to fix it for about 5 minutes, then it went back to how it was before. I’ve been told to wait while they figure things out. I’m not sure how they can figure anything out without my HMD or remoting into it. Are some chips bad? wired wrong? oriented wrong?
For iRacing, my LIGHTHOUSE Tracking is now screwed, I’m getting gray-out screens and sudden jolts/stutters in certain sections of a track that I’ll be racing on, and it moves me out of my position.
I was told this is a more widespread issue now, but I dont see anyone else writing about it in the forums.
I can’t even do one lap of Laguna Seca before I’m off by about 15 degrees. Tried using lighthouses at my brother’s house and everything worked! So there is some consolation for once I get them, but meanwhile…
Did they figure it out? I have the same problem of clockwise drifting which makes it very difficult to enjoy the headset until I get my backed lighthouses.
