I had wands working fine, then I pre-ordered the knuckles and V2 LH’s and gave my brother my vive setup with the wands, then I had the thumbstick issue so I am returning them, so now I have bought new (2nd hand) wands.
The Index controllers were tracking fine etc. Initially the fingers were ‘jittery’ but that sorted itself out after a reboot. I’m not sure if I ever used my old wands with the new V2 lighthouses.
Now these new (2nd hand) 2018 wands wont track. They are detected, they light up, and I can repeatedly pair them in PiTool, but they won’t track at all. In PiTool they say “not tracked” and in steamVR the same. They very briefly show as tracking when SteamVR starts but TBH I think that’s just as it loads - I think it is lying.
I have removed my USB extention that was working fine before and tried multiple USB ports.
I have verified SteamVR files and uninstalled and re-installed PiTool (latest beta).
I have uninstalled USB stuff in steamVR.
I have restarted the PC / Service / HMD multiple times.
I have deleted the entire AppData/Pimax folder. I have no config / lighthouse folder or file under runtime.
It’s possible that the controllers are at fault but it seems unlikely that both would behave exactly the same.
When I went back to the knuckles briefly I had to re-pair again and got the finger jitters again with them. But they did track.
Ensure your New Wands are v2.0 as og wands will not work with v2.0 LHes.
Try your new wands on your brother’s setup & see if they track. @PimaxUSA said in a similar thread regarding Vive Wands v2.0 that there has been issues even on Vive Pros.
Goddam I thought they would work, I got it the wrong way around. I bet that’s it. Unfortunately my bro lives the the other end of the country. How can I tell which version of the wands I have? They have different markings / text at the bottom than my OG ones I gave away so I thought they were new.
Yeah that’s it then, I have that model no. Google wasn’t much help for me either but some places say the new ones are blue, which mine aren’t. I can’t find any info about controller ver in steamVR.
Your welcome. I will say while LH v2.0 are nice in some of the newer features for ease of setup & larger playspace. A set of v1.0 LHes if bought on the cheap can be handy as it’s compatible with both tracking accessories.
Atm v2.0 accessories & LHes are priced out of this world.
In Canada approx +$80 ca each over v1.0.
Ifixit says number is in the plastic on bottom of controller?
Yeah I’m not sure what to do. For me tracking has seemed much worse with these V2 LHs, and they make a much louder whining noise too.
Between my trust in Valve and my keenness to get my bro off the XBox / PSVR and into real gaming (I also gave him my old vive-worthy PC) I’ve really screwed myself over, it seems.
Compared to all this 5K+ has been a plug and play dream!
E : yeah I have the ‘old’ wand model number there. Had to strain my eyes to read it but it’s there.
I wonder if maybe adding a 1.0 base station to his setup, and using it together with one 2.0 BS could solve the problem, as the older BS could find and track the original Vive Controller ?..
It could be worth a try. Even though Valve said the 2 LH systems are not supposed to be compatiable as they removed the sync flash needed for v1 tracking sensors.
So could be a good experiment. Found a LH v1.0 for cheap on Ebay…
Notice have to be careful as was bidding on one labeled 2018 LH & was a v1.0; luckily was able to id it as a v1.0 before winning the auction.
