Need some help, no Vive wands, how do I navigate through VR?

Hi everyone,
I’m a VR noob and finally got my Pimax 5k+ (#42xx, USA). I am waiting for my full pledge, Lighthouses and controllers, so I am going without for now. It is proving to be very frustrating. Is this even doable?

I obviously have a keyboard, mouse and I also have an Xbox 360 controller. I have been unable to do the simplest things like navigate SteamVR home environment. Can’t use Google Earth VR, YouTubeVR, Vive Video, Welcome to the Lightfields.

I learned about FreePie Xbox emulator through Hydra controller but that was SUPER janky and glitchy and didn’t enjoy.

Am I missing something obvious? I thought I could at least do seated experiences but I can’t even do the easiest things because I have no way to navigate.

Thank you very much for any help.

Press & hold Select or start. You should get SteamVR BigDesktop mode in steamvr environment. From there you should be able to navigate your library.

Alternatively after you launch Steamvr from pitool. Navigate Steam on your desktop & choose seated vr experience to launch.

Thanks for the reply. I’m going to look even stupider here: What do you mean “press and hold select or start”? You mean on the Xbox controller?

When I launch SteamVR from PiTools it just launches that little window that sits near my taskbar…I don’t know how to launch seated VR experience.

Thanks again

When you press and hold the start button (the smallest left one) on the XBox controller you will see a “timer” appears in the SteamVR (you have to be using the headset). If you hold it long enough, it will switch into the library mode where you can select what you want to run.

That is odd as I use my xbox controller to nav SteamVR and even Oculus Home without issue. Hope you get it figured out. I assume the xbox controller is showing in the SteamVR applet and is showing as connected.

It is. Risa’s response helped. I am just new to this and being an idiot.

So now I launched Virtual Desktop. It brought up a settings menu on my computer screen. In the headset there is a SteamVR screen saying virtual desktop is running. But I can’t figure out how to do stuff inside the headset? Can’t I browse the web in the headset? Watch youtube.com, Netflix etc? How do I get to that stuff?

Thank you UGH sorry

okay I got it. thank you. just been hours of frustration

Alright, any way to do Google Earth VR or YouTubeVR without Hydra emulator?

How to I watch 360 degree videos on YouTube without Vive wands?

Not sure off hand there is supposed to be a way to emulate the input on a gamepad.

I am in the same boat without lighthouses & controllers. I generally just use programs that are gamepad & mouse\keyboard friendly.

There was a project vrinput emulator. But Valve is supposed to have incorporated the idea into steamvr; but haven’t explored it.
