Can you link me to those that have good experiences?
I do recall someone long ago during their touring had commented picture was blurred or something in the Helicopter demo he had. It was either a member here or a linked reddit post.
Thank you VR-TECH for that thorough explanation, this cements my desition of purchasing the 8K X was the right choise can’t stand blurryness. and would not expect that from such a premium device.
Have you tried tinkering with display optimisation?
https://www.starvr.com/developers_stage/3/13/
Display Optimization function allows you to optimize the display viewing for StarVR One HMD. Each StarVR One HMD has its unique optimized value.
For better viewing quality through StarVR One HMD, Display Optimization data needs to be download to your system.
…
…
If you want to connect StarVR One HMD to other computers, you may export the optimization data from the original system and import it to the computer which connects to StarVR One HMD currently.
The fact it looks good on your 1080 sounds promising. If you can figure out the exact difference between the two then you could replicate it on the 2080 ti. Also try switching between usb ports, etc.
All of that have been done. I will send some question to them.
Try copying all of the SteamVR files from your 1080 and overwriting them onto your 2080 Ti PC. Also try doing the maxRecommendedResolution fix that is normally done for Pimax headsets. Perhaps the maxRecommendedResolution needs to be a higher number than usual due to the even wider FOV of the StarVR. You could do some trial and error.
While there are some notorious apps, which, in SteamVR, pay little to no respect to the recommended render target resolution (e.g. SteamVR home, or Alyx), the usual VR apps try to respect that and allow some (user controlled) tweaking.
There are two things which may affect this “blurry” effect (in my opinion): the lenses (as already pointed out by @VR-TECH), or the transformation the StarVR SDK does from two view SteamVR render to 4 displays.
@VR-TECH when running your UE demo, did it fully use the 4-view multiview rendering, or was it 2-view, which was then reprojected to 4-displays?
Unless you run an off-line version of SteamVR (which is an easy task), the SteamVR should be up to date on any machine it is installed on and these files are supposed to be the same (as long as they are at the same version). So I would not expect any change from that, except, maybe just confusing the auto-update feature in Steam.
Its strange that @VoodooDE and @mixedrealityTV doesnt mention this blurriness in the center… Maybe they can give a comment here?
I cant remember any bluriness in the center, strange! However please note that I tried the headset 2 years ago at a German exhibition.
Same comment here. It’s around 2 years ago and it was a demo.
Maybe there is something wrong with the unit from @VR-TECH …
That’s why I’m really interested to hear your opinion, @john2910. Any idea when you’ll be receiving yours? Already got a tracking number?
i dont know exactly when i get it sorry… i will let you know for sure
With Unreal, after enabling the VR Plugin and previewing directly to the headset, is the same effect
I also tested it 2 years ago. It didn’t feel blurry. It is possible I could be setting something incorrect?
You should try it on other rigs . Ask some friends
Does it have physical IPD and eye relief adjustments?
There is a really wide field of fresnel lens segment fault lines, that I imagine one would like to line up with, as edge-on as possible.
I have 3 rigs. The 2080ti, the GTX1080 and the Radeon RX 590
Yes, it does. However, 2 days ago I deleted steam VR and re- installed it. But now Compass the StarVR version of Pitools says to install Steam VR (which is already installed)
Without Compass reading Steam VR installed, wont allow you manual IPD change. Granted, I had previously done some testings. I will try again to see if perhaps their reading system may be off and setting different IPDs will make a difference
