I found the instructions to enable it:
https://www.starvr.com/developers_stage/3/13/
To set 110 degree as default of FOV, please follow the guidance below to activate the compatible mode or contact StarVR service center for the further assistance.
-
Exit the StarVR Compass from system tray.
-
Right click on the StarVR Compass desktop icon and select Properties.
-
Under the Shortcut tab, change the shortcut link by adding
“compatible=enabled” in the Target textbox.
-
Restart StarVR Compass and the compatible mode will be activated.
It sounds like you can only enable compatible mode for 110 degrees FOV. But maybe there’s a way to enable it for full FOV.
Yes, I already enabled it, but 110 is useless. The clipping only happens in the edges of periphery.

blood flow is impprtant. Try getting and standing for a while. Play some stand up VR games and take 15 min breaks when possible.

so are you saying that games requiring PP don’t work at all? If yes then are you saying this is because of a lack of gamer focused in-between software like PiTool?
yeah, in some ways this is why despite owning a pimax and OG Rift. I still pop the OG Vive on
sure the resolution low, and that SDE is crazy, but the contrast black-level and sharpness are next-level.
It is not a gaming headset. Is good for what it was designed for

Im curious how they are converting the dual viewport default of Steam VR and Oculus content into their quadport rendering so they avoid distortion.

Can you try Pavlov, Half Life Alyx, Boneworks, and The Walking Dead next?
I’d be willing to gift you some games if necessary.

I think Parallel Projection will work in the future for the full FOV for the Starvr one…

This sort of things only are required when it becomes a wide release product. at this point, not so much

As long as they have the FOV rendered, they can reproject it to any other plane (or planes) as needed.

There are plenty things that can be suggested to StarVR Support for future improvements to their Compass software.
The limitation of compatibility mode to 110 FOV should be the first improvement.

More updates:
Upon more testing and comparing it to other headsets. I am finding some drawbacks on a visual standpoint. Yes, the FOV is fantastic, and yes there is not distortion. However, I think there is limitation to the center focus of the image. The convergence region of the image should look sharp, but instead have a sort of blurred effect/anti-aliasing Not sure if it’s hardware related, meaning drivers, or GPU settings.
I noticed that the image looks somewhat better on my GTX 1080 than my 2080ti, but the frame rate and resolution takes a hit on the GTX 1080.
I find an angular light strip (very mild on dark scenes when rendering on the 2080 ti but not on the GTX 1080. Usually when your move your head but is subtle, only the RTX not on the GTX.
I have submitted some question regarding the sharpness to Star VR.

Hello there,
Did you download the display optimisation from compas software app?

Yes, I have done all of that. Parallel projection is called Compatible Mode. It only works at 110 FOV. For example Beatsaber works on that mode, but is clearly lower FOV and the image looks to be at lower resolution

If it looks better on your GTX 1080 than your 2080Ti PC, then I suspect it is related to settings. First make sure you have the latest windows and the latest Nvidia graphics driver.
Sometimes when you switch headsets, SteamVR saves the previous headset’s resolution settings. I experienced this when upgrading from my Odyssey plus to Valve Index. There was a blurryness that was solved when I uninstalled SteamVR, deleted all remaining SteamVR files and then re-installed. Check out this thread:
Also for me the Odyssey+ looked almost as sharp as the Index once I updated windows and got SteamVR beta.
I suspect your PC might be using Index settings for your StarVR.
Right, here the issue is the opposite. It needs a bit better sharpness. I will take a look at that link

From the link
Uninstalled SteamVR
Deleted the SteamVR folder under steamapps-> common
Deleted the folder 250820 under userdata-> your userid
Installed SteamVR
Hopefully that solves it.
