My StarVR One Arrived!

Did you ever receive the files to correct your image other than the downloaded ones from Starvr compass? Did you ever figure out how to specifically make sure the downloaded files were correctly ‘applied’?

Because I have access to a star vr headset with the profile auto downloaded from the compass app and it looks like the DK2 in steam home. By the way I have an IPD of 64.4 according to an eye doctor, or 63.7 according to the eye tracker in the star vr one. Blurry text for the game names and HUGE halo/godrays on all of the text. I tested it with the following games, comparing it to my pimax XR (‘worse’ indicates that it is blurriness approximate to the Oculus DK2 or possibly even Dk1):

Asseto Corsa LA Canyons mod: WORSE
Final Assault: WORSE. Blurry, and the scale is a lot ‘smaller’ than in the pimax 5k xr. I tried super sampling 500% even. However it is still ‘playable’ with 500% ss, possibly on the level of the cv1, except you have the 210 FOV which is great of course. Still its way way better on the pimax 5kXR.
GTA V Luke R.E.A.L. mod: a mixed bag. The scale is ‘small’ again, smaller than it should be. I heard this was the case with the XTAL as well, things not to scale the way they should be. Its not a massive blurry mess, but I did not manage to get it to the point where I really want to play either. However I couldnt get my pimax 5k xr to work as well with this mod as I could the star vr. The best headset with this mod was my oculus quest via link cable.
Compound: Perfect
gfxDoom (classic doom)VR: only works in compatiability mode, aka 110. Rendering issues as well on the peripherals
Quake1VR: compatibility mode only. On the pimax 5xr, there is no issue with things not being rendered, unlike gfxdoom
Skyrim: Perfect WOW WOW WOW WOW
Any game requiring parallel projections requires for the headset to be put in compatibility mode. Compatibility mode sucks, is limited to 110 fov and you might as well just use an oculus quest instead
Blade & Sorcery: Perfect
Project Cars 2: compatibility mode only. I don’t know how they were able to demo project cars 2 in 210 FOV, when I try to use it in regular non compatibility mode, the images are not super imposed, it seems to require parallel projection/compatibility mode.
Serious Sam Fusion VR, serious sam 3 VR: WORSE, compatibility mode only, and looks absolutely horrendously awful, possibly worse than DK1.
Dirt 2.0: WORSE
Halo master chief edition pc, Halo CE using vorpx: Compatibility mode only
Yooka Layee with vr native mod: Better but not amazing, still has jagged moving edges on a lot of the trees and stuff and somewhat blurry. Probably a result of the mod itself.

There is no driving game I know of that it works well with. As you can see, the games it will work well with are very limited. You will need another headset since it works with so few games actually. The games it does not work well with, dont even bother using it, the blurriness is just too awful.

Another issue to consider, is that if you want to switch between headsets, I found it necessary to reboot and then I have to repair the knuckles with the new headset every time and have the other headset powered off. Its kind of annoying.

The comfort of the star vr one is the best ever. It is the first VR headset I ever had on that I was able to forget I was wearing a headset. I could go for hours and not get any eye strain whatsoever or feel ‘tired’ and want to take a break. Maybe its because of the eye tracking? Not sure why.

I think for most people, the Pimax 5kXR is far superior, so you can stop wishing you had the Star VR one and appreciate what you have. If only star vr one was able to have something similar to pimax’s parallel projections that doesn’t restrict itself to 110 FOV and be able to fix the blurriness…
