My experience artisan

i seriously hope the artisan is not just a rebadged 5k+ with software FOV limiter

Really hard to say without dissection. But not an uncommon practise. Remember the days when you could unlock cores in AMD cpus?

So if they are it could be a combination of soft and hard FoV limiter.

However the presented info from SweViver suggests a probable new panel

I think It’s a new panel of 5" but the same of new 5k+, with software reduction of FoV

I would be very curious to know if Artisan really has a GPU demand lower than 5k +, in this case it would be interesting.

You think Pimax would have done that?
I was more thinking about some smaller and cheaper panels.
But I am maybe naive on this one.
Could not think Pimax would do such a thing because to me it would be terrible for the brand.

It could be panels that don’t pass qualification as 5k+, binning of parts is common in many areas of tech and allows parts that would otherwise be scrapped to be used (and a cheaper product for consumers).

like we are getting 144hz now with 5k+ 1 more patch from 180hz. (Super)

I wonder if you patched an artisan with 5k+ firmware if you would have a 5k+.

Artisan is not a re-badged 5K+. I tried it at the NYC showing. The SDE is smaller (kinda hard to find), although all I tried was Pavlov in the killhouse. Threw on my early 5K+ last week after not using it for a while, and I could remember how the Artisan had better screens. Hopefully @mixedrealityTV does his comparison to show this.

I think they have new panel 5"…with smaller FoV so better SDE

Since the firmware is not separated for models you’d need to modify the firmware.

It would be a smaller panel than 5" due to smaller fov and reports sde seems better.

I should have mine for more than a week now :sob::sob::sob:
Although I wont be able to compare it with the 5k+.
And I am pretty sure my 8k- will get old as soon as I put the Artisan on.
Yes, because I still like my 8k-

You probably have smart smoothing turned on (in Pitool). Then if you can’t get fps corresponding to Hz, it is halved and every 2nd image is approximated. If you turn off smart smoothing you should be able to get intermediate FPS values.

Hi everyone, I want to share my bad Pimax experience.

I watched Pimax and was very glad when they announced artisan, I decided that they had established their production as soon as possible and they had no more problems with plastic. I looked at the official Pimax website and it did not inspire confidence in me. I saw a store on Aliepress where there were good reviews and in general it is a convenient service and I felt the protection of my money if something goes wrong. On January 13th I bought a helmet and on January 25th I received it, great!
But then the problems started, at first my helmet stopped working normally in 90Hz mode (very dark backlight and flicker).
then cracks of plastic and one chip appeared, I did not hit my helmet and handled it carefully, but it began to collapse.

I wrote in support, and the worst happened. They sent me to seek help where I bought it.

I am sincerely glad if you are lucky to get a quality helmet and you are happy with the purchase.

Why o why does the artisan still have this bad housing!

For the price of the headset alone you can almost buy a valve index with a superb build quality…
I am worried now i ordered also a pimax artisan on Aliexpress, while still waiting on my pimax 8kx.

cancel before it’s too late, you won’t get any support from Pimax, and just read that all cases do the same, just others handle plastidip

I have added Pimaxquorra to your post. I can only assume this is some kind of error.

Please post your ticket number.

there is no mistake, Pimaxquorra helped answer my ticket.

Isn’t that pretty much standard though? I mean if I buy something from a retail store I need to go there for my customer support, not the manufacturer.

Depends on agreements in place. A store here will Warranty an item for 30 days standard from date of purchase. Some offer extended coverage for a price.

But after that one has to deal with Manufacturer. So here you have Store warranty then Manufacturer warranty.

Now I do know you need to be careful of online retailers like GearBest where you pay shipping both ways even on a DOA item and they make any customer support extremely difficult.

This is bad joke. I mean Ok for someone who wants to do it and save time but not in general.
