MRTV's HP Reverb G2 through the lens video

Well you’ll need to travel to planet Mars as no country on earth can beat the Chinese on price.

For example:
Vive Pro Eye (with Eye Tracking) is significantly inferior compared to 8K-X yet is around $200 more than 8K-X with optional Eye Tracking.

Star VR is $3700 (when using Valve base stations and controllers) and has inferior resolution. The only advantage is a small degree of wider FOV and 90hz.

XTAL VR 4K is superior clarity to 8K-X but is $7,000.

No one can touch Pimax on price especially Oculus, HTC, or even Valve.

Pimax can only be usurped by another Chinese company or if Vietnam or Thailand joins the technology race eventually.

Sorry but you’re completely wrong. You mix meaningless values. The real cost of the 8KX with DMAS comparable therefore to Valve and Vive Pro is € 1,800, you must also calculate the taxes that are not indicated on the Pimax website. This is the cost of HMD only. Valve Index HMD costs € 500 and the Vive Pro Eye € 900 approximately. As for StarVR and XTal, the comparison does not make sense, because those are license costs for the business market that provide support and development services that Pimax does not provide. Pimax is the only Chinese company whose products are more expensive than American Premium ones. Just think of Artisan that taxed and complete with KDMAS costs much more than Index

Most product cheap or not are produced in China so location is not a factor, the only real argument is that you can’t have a large FOV at this price point except from Pimax. And yes it’s not exacly cheap nor a mature design. I can have a vive pro headset only for 1000$ CAN tommorow on amazon. so your right this make the 8X-X the most expensive consumer headset on the market but it’s also the only large FOV consumer VR headset

Is it true that the Hp reverb g2 will supoort lighthouse tracking and index controllers ?

No, afaik only (an enhanced version of) Windows Mixed Reality inside-out tracking is supported.

if that was true i had canceled my 8kx order…

Hm, perhaps one might be able to mod a Cosmos Elite faceplate onto the thing…

Natively no, with $50 dollars and 15 minutes of time - yes.

You just use two SteamVR Dongles. I used my Index Controllers + 2 LHs together with the Reverb Pro G1.

Cool, didn’t know these dongles also track the controllers! (Edit: can act as receiver for controllers, thanks @JoCool) If the inside-out tracking is good enough for tracking the headset itself, then this might be a really interesting upgrade for potential G2 owners!
@mixedrealityTV - do you have such two dongles? If yes, please test this!

The controllers track themselves, like all LH controllers do. They are not dependent on the headset - except for transmitting their output to OpenVR.

Their information is just being transferred via the Dongles in this case. You need one Dongle per Item. 2 ICs need 2 Dongles. I bought 2 used “Steam Controllers” on Ebay to flash their Dongles for this purpose. You can’t buy the Dongles ready-to-go anymore, Valve stopped selling them a while ago.

It’s also a way to fix Index Controllers / Wands floating away (even though that was really a SteamVR issue from what I can tell, it happened agnostic to the headset).

What is interesting to note is that with OpenXR, there may be some issues coming and this solution may not work anymore, at least for a while. Just be advised of this.

As good as it is, the non availability of lighthouse equipment is really an issue for anything depending on it. Wish they would give more companies licenses to build them themselves (like HTC apparently has one for V1 stuff). These dongles sound like a really good idea. Sad to read that they are discontinued.

@JoCool
Out of curiosity do the vive tracker dongles work?

They should work as well, didn’t get to test them.

Hi, i have a question, have you got chaperone bounders when you use the knucles?

I don’t when i have use them with reverb and oddisey and it is a serious problem whith the walls

Yes, I do have chaperone bounds.

Disable WMR bounds’ visibility and use SteamVR bounds.

It’s all written down in the guide I have linked to. Nothing is missing.

Why don’t you make this comparison?
You have the camera now, right. The one you didn’t have when your previwed the 8KX
30 seconds would be enough, even 20

It’s because the final 8KX has different hardware, different chipset and color reproduction. And the G2 he has has increased brightness. Watch his video and especially the Q&A, he stated all the reasons in there.

Then, why if his G2 has the so many increased brightness issue, is he showing the “awesome” video of the G2, and not a single frame of the 8KX with the 4K camera, the one he made for it was so bad.

No, thank you though. I have my own “unaffiliated link” sources
