MRTV Subjective FOV Comparison

MRTV video.

10:30 elapsed on video.

Sebastian: 140 degrees and this is for the largest FOV the Pimax 8K-X can show

I’m confused. Either MRTV are being dishonest or Pimax are or the testing equipment is faulty?

I swear it was generally accepted the Pimax 200 FOV is actually 160-170 FOV in large but Sebastian is saying it’s 140 FOV.

Likely an issue with the tool he is using or an issue with the pre production model.

We have seen an odd deviation between Artisan versions released.

Try with the Standalone ROV tool that I linked in the description. It will fix your screen for more accurate results. It showed 140deg for large FOV with the 8KX.

I tried the standalone tool (The one that costs 3-4$).
I used: “testhmd-win-stable_1_1b_Framerate”

There maybe an issue of accuracy in the RoV tool your using. I would reccommend trying Risa’s Hmdq tool as many of your vertical values for headsets seems off.

Or your pre production ces model has some issues

Why does anyone have to be being dishonest here? plausible this is just a mistake or false reading that just needs double checking.

We know marketing info on most of these is exaggerated and it’s been long accepted that the pimax horizontal max is around 160, at least that’s what’s being rendered (with some variation per person and perception)

Thank you! I am wondering the exact same thing. In here it is directly some anti Pimax conspiracy!

I tried both, Large and Normal and for Large this is what I got. Anyways, I will be back in office tmr and double check. Wouldn’t want to steal any degrees here from Pimax!

The Snellen test in this app is also interesting. Can read down to row 5, thus 20/40 in native mode. (Usually I can read down to row 8 or 7, depending on eye). So still some way to go

To change Pimax FOV you need to restart SteamVR

As an m1 tester you know he has more experience with the pimax headsets than most of us. :v::wink::+1::sparkles:

P.S.: I use a vertical offset of +1 (which might explain the difference of bottom vs top values for vertical measurements(?)) and a software IPD offset of 0. Perhaps a very high/low IPD offset is configured?

No, this is a master of arrogance error.

Not at all. Anyone whom has had a Pimax p2 headset at backer release or before knows what settings requires a restart to take effect.

The m1 test group helped many backers during the very early days understand how to use settings and setup the headset for use. I am sure you likely forgot that. :vulcan_salute::sunglasses::+1::sparkles:

Seems sometimes also to depend on how the application is programmed. So e.g. in Steam Home you can change FoV without a restart but it does completely ignore supersampling changes until the next SteamVR restart for me while for most other applications the latter can be changed on the fly.

Well I own the index and the pimax 5k+ and I can tell without a doubt the large FOV is WAYYYY bigger than just 10 degrees, even normal trumps the index by at least 10 degrees, there’s no way the large FOV is only 140 degrees. Something is wrong in this test. I’m not calling MRTV a liar, just there’s something seriously wrong either with MRTV’s HMD or the software.

Seb, Can you put the Index and 8KX on and say there’s only 10 degree difference? I’m not being sarcastic or condescending, it’s just an honest question.
Because if so I’m definitely canceling my 8KX order.

You should cancel MRTV . Not Pimax.

Another interesting idea. Is some have found the comfort kit increases the pupil.to lens distance. So Seb’s perceived FoV could be less as a result. Using the og Cowl he might see more of the rendered FoV.

Who said anything about cancelling anything? There good reviews that adds needed contrast and many 8kX reviews have noted some of the issues he perceived.

I would never cancel MRTV, but if Pimax is Pimping a 160 degree large fov and it’s only 140, well then I feel scammed. Because Fov is my number one reason I stick with the pimax.

If the 5k+ didn’t open a can of WHOOP A$$ on the Index in the FOV department I wouldn’t use my 5k+ anymore

The comfort kit could be reducing perceived FoV. The og Face Mask pupil to lens distance is closer.

Much like to get the most perceived FoV on the Index requires lenses as close to your eyes using the eye relief adjustnent. It says up to 30° more FoV.
