I don’t know what everyone is complaining about. On my 3090 in campaign I get 55 to 60 fps, and when I set FFR to balanced I get a smooth 75fps on Large FOV. Graphics look really nice, like Half Life Alyx. You can interact with objects, but not with all of them. There’s no finger tracking support for Index controllers, but weapons feel very nice to shoot and use. Multiplayer is fun too. I like this game more than Pavlov. Oh and it also has smooth locomotion right out of the bat.
Not sure on Frames. However the huge downloads and lots of cut scenes seems to be part of the issues. Voodoode is a good reviewer and does take a bit for him not to recommend a game.
I don’t mind the cutscenes, I think they will lesson, the farther in you get through the game.
I refunded after an hour of game play. It seemed to run fine except the the index controllers were hit and miss with the grip. When I tried to throw a grenade it take too long to let go and just fall at my feet. Graphics feel dated. Just wasn’t much fun.
Hopefully that is the case. However any indications why it is such a huge download?
Plus not great if you require a maxed pc to get good play.
Yeah from what I saw of videos graphics did seem dated.
So what else is coming up in VR to look forward to ? Not a lot that I can find. I might have to try cyberpunk on a monitor.
I like Norm from tested below. I think he’s right in they delivered the game as planned - IMHO a relatively safe linear Medal Of Honor Allied Assault in VR and that’s probably why it feels a little dated. Some had high expectations for a WW2 themed Half-Life Alyx (which raised the bar massively) and are disappointed.
As thier first big budget VR game Respawn must have been on a massive learning curve. I hope they use this as a platform to make a more innovative & polished VR sequel.
the graphics/lighitng/etc are good! i’d say as good or better than saints and sinners
the campaign is a bit boring, took me 45 minutes before i found any combat. switched to multiplayer and had a blast! the game is a little old fashioned overall but i dont think that’s bad here. the boys on multi assured me that the pacing picks up on the campaign after the first two hours so i’m going to get back to it today esp after seeing some clips of later missions with vehicles and such that look fun.
i think it’s a game that should be priced closer to squadrons, 40$ with frequent sales since it is a game that has to live on the popularity of the multiplayer.
After some more single player,i do like it… at times very immersive…
Patches INCOMING!
"We’ve been digging through all of the feedback and working on what to address next. Thank you to everyone that posted anything constructive.
By early next week, maybe even sooner than that, we will release a patch that includes:
Smooth turning.
Removes the mission victory screen in between levels, but keeps it at the end of missions.
Unlocks the Gallery content from the start of the game.
Fixes weapon grabbing issues in Quartermaster.
Other misc. bug fixes and quality of life improvements.
We are also working on the next patch after this one. I will post the specific plans for that release when they are more concrete. We’re trying to balance the scope of each patch vs our ability to release fixes and improvements quickly.
I can confirm that the team is in the middle of working on implementing additional visual scaling options. We hope to get this out as soon as possible, but it wont be in the first patch.
We are committed to listening to the community and trying to fix/adjust as many things as we are able to.
Thank you for your continued support. "
I’m not sure why everyone wants smooth turning so much. I actually personally feel a bit dizzy/motion sick when using smooth turning but not with snap turning. But it probably feels more immersive with smooth turning.
I wouldn’t force smooth turning on anyone but think it should be a basic option for those who like it.
Just watching FREALITY and these guys are genuinely arguing / very frustrated with each other’s opinions - it’s unusual to see them so divided (starts 33:40).
I’ll have to watch that vid to see what they say, but I got through Mission 1 and I’m really liking it. The game has AAA content. I think the issue is people don’t like the presentation of it, along with some minor (FIXABLE) controls issues. Everyone wants AAA VR content, and now that it’s here, they’re crapping on petty stuff. I guess big devs can’t win.
- Some people think the graphics are “bad,” which I don’t understand. Every piece of asset is high resolution. That means practically no aliasing wherever you look, which is a HUGE DEAL for immersion for me. The game is crisp everywhere. Yeah the character models aren’t realistic looking, but they’re high-res. That’s how VR should be done, and that’s why the game takes up so much space.
- Yeah the scope isn’t perfect, but it didn’t bother me AT ALL. If it was Sniper Elite doing that kind of scope, I’d be disappointed, but the scope is only used in a few guns. Population 1’s scopes were horrid to me by comparison.
- I prefer snap turn, so there’s that.
- Yeah, performance isn’t perfect, but it’s totally playable (i7-10700K and 1080Ti). I believe we’ll have more options for performance soon.
- I also realized the head-oriented smooth movement didn’t bother me at all, and usually it does. I think that’s due to the level design. (controller-oriented is coming soon)
- The tons of loading screens didn’t bother me at all. It just feels like the game is taking me through multiple “Acts” and the story is linear, at least in Mission 1, so I don’t understand the idea of the game being “disjointed.”
People are complaining because it’s what they do to AAA games and it’s EA. Right now I can tell a ton of effort was put into this and I think it’s worth $60. They put the content first, and then decided to add the more trivial things in after launch. Not the best idea in hindsight I guess, but oh well.
IMO they should flesh out the multiplayer with progression and offer it for $20. I haven’t tried it yet, but I haven’t heard any complaints about it besides no progression and performance issues(which they’re patching for more settings). If they port just multiplayer to Quest 2 I can see a solid playerbase, since they would have solved those performance issues doing the port.
I think most of the disappointment is that people were expecting Half Life Alyx like interaction with objects but in an even better way. i.e: Like real life interactions. And instead they got more Pavlov style interaction.
But unlike Pavlov, these guns feel uniquely satisfying to shoot and rewarding. Oddly though, the guns feel less satisfying in multiplayer than in campaign. Don’t know why.
Has anyone played the oculus version on the 8KX? I’m wondering if that version would play smoother than the Steam version?
Patch 2 is out, including some graphics settings, with another patch coming next week with “real” scopes:
FYI there’s a Medal of Honor unofficial discord for multiplayer:
First play session is in ~ 1 hour (8pm Eastern) Thursday. I’m trying to make it, hopefully we get some fun, full-server action!
has anyone had a chance to try DFR with the eye tracking on this one?
I’m having problems running this on Pimax. I had to launch it first on Oculus headset to be able to get past the EA User Agreement, but now when I try to launch from PiTool, the game launches in 2D, not in VR, and doesn’t get past the opening logos. Anyone else had this problem, and found a solution?
Edit: was using PiTool 066, I tried the 086 beta, didn’t help
Personally I don’t launch it from Pitool. I use the desktop icon and not had any problems starting it.
